Policy on flag folding recitation clarified.
After recieving a number of emails and inquiries from people regarding the decision to ban the “13-Fold†Ceremony I decided to contact some friends in Washington to ask what could be done to reverse the decision. What I got, instead, was a press release from the Veterans Administration dated yesterday which clarifies the policy.
The clarification of policy notes that volunteer honor gaurds are authorized to read the “13-fold” flag recitation “or any comparable script.”
It also notes the following:
- Survivors of the deceased need to provide material and request it be read by the volunteer honor guards; and
- Volunteer honor guards will accept requests for recitations that reflect any or no religious traditions, on an equal basis.
For more information, I would encourage those interested to visit the VA’s website.
