Progressive Groups Target Snowe with Public Option Fund Raising Money

Greg Sargent at The Plum Line reports two progressive groups have raised over $100,000 in the 24 hours since both Public Option Amendments where defeated.

>Here’s a pretty interesting sign of the depth of support for the public option and of the anger at “centrist” Dem lawmakers who opppose it.

>Two progressive groups who launched a fundraising drive yesterday afternoon citing the defeat of both public option amendments tell me they’ve already pulled in $125,000. That’s in less than 24 hours.

>The groups — the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy For America — are already running ads in the home states of Max Baucus and Olympia Snowe, demanding that they support the public option. As of yesterday, the groups had already raised $90,000 for the spots.

In a subsequent post Greg cites a Democrat poll that purportedly shows huge majority of Snowe’s Constituents what her to “break ranks with the GOP and support a health care compromise”

Greag actully says the following:

>This is coming from a Dem firm, admittedly, but the questions seem well-framed, and these are striking numbers.

Here are the findings:

>* By 50 to 39 percent, voters in Maine believe Republicans in Congress “aren’t being constructive and just want Obama to fail” rather than that they “are playing a constructive role in improving a health care reform bill.”

>* By 62 to 29 percent, Mainers believe President Obama “has made an effort to reach out to Republicans on health care reform” rather than that he “has ignored Republicans’ ideas on health care reform.”

>* And by 64 to 28 percent, they feel Senator Snowe “should vote for the health care bill if she thinks it’s a good bill even if she is the only Republican who supports it” rather than that she “should only vote for the health care bill if it is a bipartisan bill that other Republicans are willing to support.”

Well-framed questions Greg? Surly you jest!
