As many of our regular readers are aware, I have written in great detail about why Tim Scott is the most qualified candidate to represent the 1st District of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives. However, what many of you haven’t heard about is Mr. Scott’s extremely inspirational life story.
Tim Scott grew up in the projects of North Charleston, SC and was raised by a single mother who worked two jobs to keep him and his brother off of welfare. At the age of thirteen, Mr. Scott was working at a gas station in order to help support his family. By the age of fourteen, Tim was failing most of his classes and was on the verge of dropping out of high school. It was at this time that Mr.Scott met John Moniz, an entrepreneur who owned a local Chick-fil-A, who took over as his mentor. Tim states that it was John Moniz who taught him that, “You can think your way out of poverty”. John Moniz spent the last three years of his life mentoring Tim and making sure that he turned out to be a success.
Fast forward four years, and Tim Scott has a football scholarship to college. By his sophomore year, Mr. Scott trades in his football scholarship for a Christian Leadership scholarship.
Tim Scott, now, says that he is in public service because, “Someone paid it forward, and now it is my opportunity to pay it forward”. Mr. Scott has “paid it forward” by not only being in elected public service for fifteen years, but also by mentoring his nephew who is a student at Georgia Tech that is currently doing a fellowship at Oxford University in England.
Oh, and Tim Scott says that his mom is his “hero”, and still takes her to lunch every Saturday. And, he takes his grandfather to eat at Outback every Sunday.
Tim Scott is a great guy who will make an exemplary US Representative. We need a lot more like him in Washington, DC. Please, if you are able, GO HERE TO DONATE TO TIM SCOTT’S CAMPAIGN. The run-off is in less than a week (to be specific, it’s on June the 22nd). Thank you for your support.
