ARIZONA/IMMIGRATION ISSUE

“I stand behind Governor Brewer 100% and I appluade Arizona for doing for themselves what the Obama Administation has failed to do. It is the federal government’s duty to protect our borders, but what should a state do when they fail to meet that duty? I believe Arizona had an answer to that question and that they were willing to take action when the federal government failed them.”

1. President Obama supports a system that allows undocumented immigrants in good standing to pay a fine, learn English and become citizens.

“I don’t believe that rewarding those who’ve broken our laws with a shortcut to citizenship is fair, it is a slap in the face to those who have done things legally and who have shown respect for our laws and process. I suspect that President Obama’s plan to grant citizenship to hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants would fair well politically with the Democratic Party in the upcoming election, but I think that this issue shouldn’t be about politics. Rather the focus should be on securing jobs and safety for the American people and upholding the laws that were created to do so.”

2. Opponents of the law argue that it is unconstitutional and a mandate for racial profiling, and fear it will destroy trust between Hispanic communities and law enforcement in the Mexico border state.

“Anyone who has read the legislation that was passed in Arizona understands that it does not promote racial profiling and that it actually upholds the Constitution. Furthermore, for opponents to argue that the brave men and women who serve in law enforcement will use this law as a means to harass the Hispanic community is insulting and shameful. If anyone is being negatively profiled with this law it seems to me it’s the Arizona police who risk their lives everyday to protect it’s citizens.”

3.  The Obama administration is expected to file a lawsuit challenging Arizona’s strict new law that aims to crack down on illegal immigration.

“According to an article by Arizona State Senator Russel Pearce: ‘Poll after poll shows support for this law at 70 percent or higher. Here in Arizona 56 percent of Democrats, 60 percent of Hispanics and 86 percent of Republicans support it’. With numbers like that I cannot understand how the federal government can challenge this law. President Obama and the Democratic controlled Congress has pushed through bill after bill with far less support than the bill that this one has, it just goes to show that they have completely lost touch with the American people.”
