Come on Everyone–it’s Time to Dig Deep and Help the People of Dixie.

Americans are an extremely charitable people. We NEVER turn our backs on those in need—whether it be our fellow Americans in New Orleans, or strangers in distant lands like Haiti or Japan. Wednesday night, a slew of tornadoes tore through the southeastern US, ravaging Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, all the way to Virginia. So far, almost 300 people have been reported dead, and millions of dollars in property damage has been done by the 173 tornadoes that have destroyed Dixie (Tuscaloosa, AL seems to be the hardest hit). Bottom line, this is the deadliest tornado outbreak in the US since 1974.
Now, the good news is that, unlike the massive flooding that happened in Tennessee last year, the media actually seems to care about this disaster and President Obama is currently touring the South in order to assess the damage (whereas, he didn’t show up at all in TN last year). Yes, a select few have behaved appallingly–like the clowns over at Think Progress who had the unmitigated gall to imply that the people in these states kind of had it coming because they are all a bunch of global warming denying rednecks. However, this time around, the MSM, President Obama and the American people–both liberal and conservative–have overwhelmingly conducted themselves with class and generosity. Let’s keep it that way and not start giving the people of Dixie the Heisman, instead of our love and support, once the cameras go away and this story is off of the front page.
Michelle Malkin has a multitude of links to many different charities on her website where you can make a donation to help out the good people of Dixie (and Tabitha Hale of Redstate.com does as well). I grew up all over the South, and I can tell you that they would do it for us without even blinking. Even if you only have a dollar or two to give, your generosity during a recession will be greatly appreciated. If everyone gives a dollar, then that would add up to a lot of dough. It’s time to love our neighbors and help the people of Dixie get through this horrific disaster.
PS–I have embedded a video below from ABC World News so that everyone can hear from the victims, and see for themselves just how hellacious these tornadoes actually were.

Weekly Republican Address 4/30/11: Rep. James Lankford (R-OK)

“Hello, my name is James Lankford, and I’m a freshmen Member of Congress, working for the people of Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District.
“When I listen to my constituents about the challenges they face, skyrocketing cost of gasoline is at the top of the list. Prices at the pump have nearly doubled since President Obama took office, making everyday life like driving to work, buying groceries, picking up kids at school and visiting family more expensive.
“Even worse, the rising price of fuel is costing jobs and hurting our economy. Higher energy prices hit virtually every American product and industry, making it more expensive to manufacture products, more expensive to ship goods, and more expensive for farmers and ranchers. In fact, higher energy costs make everything made in the USA more expensive, and send more good-paying jobs overseas.
“Americans are looking for leadership to tackle the rising gas prices, but President Obama has only offered a tax increase on energy and the prospect of reduced supply. For more than two years, his administration has knowingly increased energy prices by choking off new sources of traditional American energy and smothering our economy in new energy regulations. His latest proposal – hiking taxes by billions of dollars – will not lower gas prices and would actually make the problem worse.
“Fast Five” is a Fun, yet Cliché ridden, Joyride

When The Fast and the Furious (2001) came out I was in high school and probably the right age to enjoy it. I didn’t have my driver’s license for very long and the thought of stupid people doing stupid things with cars was very appealing. It didn’t take me long to grow out of it, though I’ll always have a soft spot for that film. After all, it has some great racing sequences. There are now four more films in the franchise that likely jumped the shark a long time ago. I’m reminded of that fake trailer in the beginning of Tropic Thunder for Tugg Speedman’s Scorcher films: “no one thought it would happen…THREE-MORE-TIMES.”
Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) are back in action once again, driving fast cars and taking big chances. The film opens with Toretto finally getting sentenced for past crimes. He gets a 25 years to life term, which only means his friends will need fast cars and a quick plan to break him free. After making a bus topple end over end where everyone would likely have been killed, we catch up with everyone in South America. O’Conner is with Mia (Jordana Brewster), Toretto is on his way. They meet up with Vince (Matt Schulze) who has a job lined up for “easy money.”
Naturally, something goes wrong and a couple of US federal agents are killed in the process by the hand of local thieves Vince was working with. Toretto and company get blamed and the top dogs from the US federal agencies are sent on a manhunt. This group is led by Agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson/The Rock), who appears so beefed up he very well might pop. After a series of unfortunate events, Toretto decides to put together the clichéd “one last job.”
John Boehner says Barack Obama playing the ‘race card’

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — On the heels of forcing President Barack Obama to make public his Hawaiian birth certificate, John Boehner on Wednesday accused the president, his supporters and the national media of playing the “race card” against republicans and the teaparty.
Boehner said the media is trying to make the pursuit of Obama’s birth certificate a race issue, but forcefully said that “this has nothing to do with race. Absolutely nothing.”
“There is nobody who’s less of a racist than me,” said Boehner.
He likened the attacks against him to those the Clintons faced during the 2008 primary campaign.
“And they did it with [former President Bill] Clinton,” Boehner said. “Clinton was made into a racist by Obama, and he’s never forgotten it. And there’s nobody that’s less of a racist than Bill Clinton.
“He did it with Bill Clinton, and with Hillary,” Boehner added. “He made them into racists. That’s why I was amazed that Hillary went to work for him. … Here’s two people, Hillary and Bill Clinton, who really devoted a lot to African-Americans. They did probably as much as anybody, and he made them into racists.”
This is Fantastic! Our republican controlled house leader is finally standing up and speaking truth to this disastrous administration. He’s mad as hell and he’s not taking it anymore!!!!!!
Oh wait…this wasn’t Boehner that said this, it was Donald Trump…my bad.

Reading between the lines of the press coverage of the Senate race in Florida

There’s been several in-depth articles published in the past few days regarding the Florida Republican primary candidates who are competing to take on Senator Bill Nelson in 2012. Let’s take a few moments to see what everyone is saying:
Politico | David Catanese | Florida Senate hopeful looking to follow Marco Rubio’s lead
He’s a young, little-known former state lawmaker who is steadily piling up praise from the chattering class as the most authentic conservative candidate in the race for Florida’s Senate seat.
Adam Hasner announced his candidacy on Mark Levin’s nationally syndicated radio show Monday night, but even in this nascent stage of his campaign, there is ample evidence that his path is predicated on replicating the success of Sen. Marco Rubio…
…Hasner hasn’t reached Rubio-levels of fame yet. But he has earned glowing write-ups from prominent conservative publications like National Review, Human Events and NewsMax.
The article cites Hasner’s support from members of what the author deems the “conservative illuminati,” such as Erick Erickson, Mark Levin, and prominent GOP attorney Cleta Mitchell, and then mentions another name you may recognize:
Courting grassroots support is central to Hasner’s early strategy. Likely to be outraised in the early rounds by state Senate President Mike Haridopolos, Hasner is aiming for hearts and minds over pocketbooks, lining up many of the key on-the-ground players who signed on with Rubio when no one thought he had a chance.
“He’s already got a lot of the same supporters,” said Sarah Rumpf, an Orlando-area conservative activist who held one of the first fundraisers for Rubio in the early summer of 2009.

Glenn interviews his 2012 favorite: Allen West

Glenn has been raving about Congressman Allen West. Given the interactions, clips, and interviews of West that have made the rounds on the internet, it’s easy to understand why. But as we’ve seen all too many times with candidates, it’s easy to get excited only to find out the candidate is not all they are cracked up to be. Glenn decided it was time to find out if Congressman West is as awesome as he appears to be — or not. Congressman West joined Glenn on radio today. How did West hold up to the relentless questioning of Glenn Beck?

ReasonTV’s The War on Walmart: Who’s afraid of cheap groceries?

Retail giant Walmart is planning to open its first stores in New York City and Washington, D.C.
That’s got local politicians and activists up in arms.
“Walmart, keep your plantation because there are no more slaves,” says New York City Councilman Charles Barron.
Walmart will make criminals of our children, argues Washington D.C. commissioner Brenda Speaks, because “kids are kids” so they’ll shoplift and then “security will grab them.”
If we’re tricked into welcoming Walmart through our city gates “wrapped up in a shiny package,” explains New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, it will take over and destroy us.
So what’s getting anti-Walmart activists so riled up?
The answer: cheap groceries.
“America Is Gone In The Wrong Direction” George Soros; Hypocrite and Liar

‘America Is Gone In The Wrong Direction’ George Sores Is Saving America With His Time &Treasure From Our Political Debate Because It’s Making Us NOT An Open Society
One of the biggest problems here is that Soros alone defines what truth is. I think there is strong case to be made that Soros himself has created (through his time and treasure) the very atmosphere of chaotic political debate in this country. By funding and empowering those who intentionally falsify political information (ie. Think Progress, Media Matters, MoveOn.org etc.) in order to drive an agenda Soros is directly responsible for the atmosphere he’s deriding in this video. That makes him not only a hypocrite but liar who’s using the guise of an “Open Society” to achieve a theoretical-utopian-one-world-government that has zero chance of success in our current reality.
To my mind Soros has bastardized his mentors teaching for his own gain. Although Karl Popper advanced the philosophy of the “Open Society” I don’t believe he viewed America as authoritarian or totalitarian as Soros clearly does. Also, by applying Popperian falsificationism to the theory of the “Open Society” one would have to conclude, given the fact that it’s at odds with some available evidence, the theory dead and not worth perusing!
