A Message from Eric Odom from the Liberty News Network…

Fellow Patriots,

It’s been a wild ride since that cold and snow February 27th of 2009. On that day some 500 patriots gathered in downtown Chicago, joined by about 30,000 others across a handful of cities in various other states. We had no idea what would become of our gathering, but we knew we were upset and we weren’t going away.

Six weeks later, on April 15th, 2009, the same type of gathering happened in more than 850 cities nation wide. It was the birth of a movement that would hold back the radical agenda of the left and put up a fight that could very well save this nation from complete collapse.

I shouldn’t have to stress the importance of 2012. If you’re reading this email, you know full well how vital it is that we win in November. Of course, it’s not just about winning some elections… it’s about completely re-shaping the entire battlefield to our advantage.

Tea Guide

An area we as a movement have been constantly beat in since 2009 is information warfare. Our political opponents have a deep pocketed, radical corporate media at their fingertips and they use it to fight us at every turn. We must fight back with our own media, our own reporting networks, our own messaging arm.

Many of you know we’ve spent the better part of the past two years putting together the framework to launch our own fully independent news network. From the political battle of the 2009 recess rallies, to the special election in NY23 and Boston, to the 2010 elections… our grassroots team has been organizing and communicating with hundreds of thousands of activists nationwide.

We now have VERY good news to report back to you. Last year we partnered with Grassfire, one of the nation’s LARGEST grassroots networks in existence. Grassfire has helped us build a technological framework for our news/media network and we’re finally ready to roll this thing out.

Our next stage requires that we bring more reporting talent to the table, push out more professional content/reporting and make our information more easily accessible. Grassfire is helping us do this by providing an extremely valuable resource to offer those who will step up and help us make our move on the leftist media.

We now have about 60,000 daily readers of the Liberty News Report. Our web properties are growing, our social media profiles are growing and it’s time to step up our efforts. We’re going to ask you to give us a hand with this effort, and in return we’re going to send you a fantastic resource for the 2012 election cycle.

THE 2012 TEA PARTY SURVIVAL GUIDE

The 2012 Tea Party Survival Guide promises to be one of the greatest resources for tea party activists in 2012. The book contains key information, strategies, organizing guides and insights. We even put together a superb analysis of the top targeted 2012 Senate races and included the results in the book.

Grassfire will send you TWO copies of the Tea Party Survival Guide in exchange for any financial contribution you can afford to make. Whether that’s $5, $25, $100 or more, you’ll get two of these guidebooks.

Best of all, funds raised through this effort go directly into the fund to develop the Liberty News Network for the tea party movement.

CLICK HERE TO GET YOUR TEA PARTY SURVIVAL GUIDEBOOKS!

You’re help in this will be rewarding for years and years to come. We’re all in this together, all engaging in our part of the fight and doing everything we can. If we can defeat this attack on our liberty , and we certainly believe we can, our children and their children will have a shot at prosperity.

Let’s make sure they have that chance. It’s our time.

For Liberty,

Eric Odom

P.S. Like I mentioned, Grassfire will send you TWO copies of the 2012 Tea Party Survival Guide with a contribution of any amount. Be sure to get your order in as soon as possible!

Congressional Candidate Steve Foley Embraces “9-9-9 PLAN” For Real Tax Reform

CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE STEVE FOLEY EMBRACES
“9-9-9 PLAN” FOR REAL TAX REFORM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  January 17, 2012

Steve Foley, congressional candidate in California’s 47th District, announced today that he supports the “9-9-9 Plan,” a package of tax reforms first proposed by former presidential candidate Herman Cain.

The 9-9-9 Plan has gained a substantial following among voters nationwide, both for its simplicity and the economic benefits it would yield.

“I support the 999 Plan because it’s time for bold solutions and broad reform,” Foley asserted. “Our elected leaders habitually tinker around the edges of tax reform, making small insignificant changes. Real action and reform are now required.”

First and foremost, the 9-9-9 Plan would provide a pro-growth shot in the arm to a struggling U.S. economy. “The departure of business from the U.S. to more business-friendly nations has become an epidemic,” Foley acknowledged. “Our country now has the highest corporate tax structure in the world. It hurts average Americans. When business goes, so do jobs.”

Foley explained that the 9-9-9 Plan would contribute to a reversal of this negative trend by establishing a much lower corporate tax structure. “Many existing companies would return to U.S. shores under less burdensome tax conditions.” Just as importantly, the 9-9-9 Plan would provide emerging business with strong incentive to base operations in the U.S. “Thriving business is the lifeblood of a healthy economy,” Foley stated.

Foley noted that the 9-9-9 Plan had many additional advantages. In shifting the burden of taxation from production to consumption, it would increase capital formation, fueling productivity and wage growth. It would also allow immediate expensing of business investments. All deductions and special interest favors would be eradicated under the 9-9-9 Plan, making for greater fairness, neutrality, and transparency.  Moreover, some of the most hated taxes would completely disappear, including:

•    All payroll taxes
•    The death tax
•    Double taxation of dividends
•    Taxation of capital gains and repatriated profits

Foley observed that the everyday citizens can no longer hope to comprehend the vastness and complexity of the existing, antiquated, oppressive federal tax code. “At 72,536 pages and growing yearly, the current tax code is the very definition of out-of-control government. The 9-9-9 Plan would instead be simple, powerful, and effective. It’s time for common sense on Capitol Hill.”

“In embracing the 9-9-9 Plan,” Foley declared, “I’m sending a clear signal that I’ll be an agent of real, positive reform in Washington. Idle chatter just won’t cut it anymore.”

Praise for Mark Levin’s “Ameritopia”

Ameritopia: The Unmaking of AmericaAmeritopia: The Unmaking of America by Mark R. Levin

National Review Online: “The ‘hour is late,’ says Mark Levin, nationally syndicated radio-talk-show host and president of the Landmark Legal Foundation. But the bestselling author is optimistic that Americans haven’t all given up on the constitutional principles that have made ours an exceptional nation. In his new book, Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America, Levin talks about what ails us and how we can reclaim what our Founders had in mind. Here, he discusses the book with National Review Online’s Kathryn Jean Lopez.”

Terence P. Jeffrey:  “’Utopianism is not new,’ Levin writes in ‘Ameritopia.’ ‘It has been repackaged countless times—since Plato and before. It is as old as tyranny itself. In democracies, its practitioners legislate without end. In America, law is piled upon law in contravention and contradiction of the governing law—the Constitution.’ Levin’s verdict: Barack Obama and modern American liberals are firmly in the Utopian camp—pursuing a vision fundamentally at odds with limited government and human freedom.”

Neil Cavuto (Fox News interview with Levin): “I don’t care whether you’re on the right or left, you need to read this. You need to step back and see historically what’s going on in our country.”

Jeffrey Lord: “Once Ameritopia is read and understood, no cognizant person will not understand what is unfolding around them in 21st century America — and for that matter what has been unfolding in spurts and stops right from the get go of humanity itself, not to mention America. Ameritopia is historical X-ray vision in book form. Typically, Mark Levin has done his homework… a lot of it….and it shows. With apologies to J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter, you might say Levin uncovers the philosopher’s stone of American liberalism.”

Jason Mattera: “Coming off the heels of his blockbuster bestseller Liberty & Tyranny (which sold more than 1 million copies), Mark Levin is at it again, this time with the release of Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America.  HUMAN EVENTS got a sneak peak at Ameritopia, which hits bookstores today, and you won’t be disappointed. The book is vintage Levin: hard-hitting, educational, and prescriptive — a perfect brew to counter the Left’s never-ending assault on the American idea.

David Limbaugh: “Liberal utopianism is a fantasy of arrogant philosophers and philosopher kings who believe their vision is superior to those of other lowly mortals. Levin calls them the ‘masterminds’ — the latest and most prominent being President Barack Obama and his cadre of utopian elitists. They believe they are proponents of enlightenment thinking and rationalism who could construct the ideal society if deniers and other obstructionists would just get out of their way. In reality, however, they couldn’t be more irrational, as they reject human nature, history and all empirical evidence that contradicts their vision. Indeed, writes Levin, ‘utopianism is regressive, irrational, and pre-Enlightenment.’”

C. Edmund Wright:  “When I came across the line that ‘Utopia misapprehends man’s nature,’ I had to stop reading and make a note to self. I do this with any brilliantly succinct and accurate notion. This line was so good that I wish I had written it myself. I had not. Mark Levin wrote that and many other such nuggets — and wove them into a tightly coherent narrative on where and why America is today. It’s entitled Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America, published today. Like his Liberty and Tyranny three years ago, this book should defy publishing gravity and demonstrate that Americans are indeed interested in intellectual history — as long as the author can make it compelling and demonstrate relevance.”

Under the Fedora, Post NH edition Pre SC edition

Well the NH primary is over and it’s time to take account of lessons:

1. Mitt Romney has proved that given an electorate more familiar with him than any outside of Massachusetts and with the entire Romney apparatus within easy driving range to work for him in a state for months, he can attract nearly 40% of the vote in a primary. Impressive.

You know it really stunned me that nobody brought up the idea that Romney could enlist a ton of Massachusetts pols and supporters to run across the border for him, you would think that would be considered a relevant fact.

2. Jon Huntsman has proved that when 51% of your voters approve of the Job Barack Obama has done as president that doesn’t translate into support beyond states where independents can vote in GOP primaries. His withdrawal further proved that beating up on the base of the party is not the best way to attract votes within it.

When your campaign’s biggest boosters are the MSM you are unlikely to do well in a GOP primary.

3. Ron Paul proved that coming in 3rd in Iowa and 2nd in NH doesn’t assure one of respect by the MSM or by non-Paul supporters on twitter.

I talked to an awful lot of Ron Paul supporters both during and after the campaign here is an interview with one in NH a week after the primaries at a GOP event for candidate Ovide Lamontagne who is running for the GOP nomination for governor.

I strongly disagree with Paul on many issues and I think the denial of the Newsletters in his name is disingenuous at best, but the GOP is foolish if they abandon those who paint his supporters with a broad brush.

In tonight’s debate Paul said we should use the golden rule with our foes, it would be nice if that worked. It would also be nice if I owned a flying trained Unicorn.

4. Rick Santorum proved that you can still finish ahead of a former speaker of the house in a state even if you don’t spend a dime on TV ads and that SOPA is a bill he needs to study up on.

Meanwhile my guy Rick Santorum has picked up some fun endorsements the first being evangelical leaders meeting in Texas:

A meeting of Christian conservative leaders resulted in the group backing GOP presidential hopeful Rick Santorum, Family Research Council president Tony Perkins announced Saturday.

The second being Abby Johnson late of planned parenthood now a supporter of life

“I am proud to give my personal endorsement to Senator Rick Santorum, a true champion of the unborn,” Johnson, also a LifeNews blogger, said. “While Senator Santorum has other outstanding qualities that would make him a wonderful President of the United States, his focus on protecting life in its most vulnerable stages speaks magnitudes about his values and morals as a leader. By valuing life in all its stages, Senator Santorum displays the courage that is needed to turn this country around.”

It will take a lot of false robocalls to counter act that one.

In NH I took some grief from people over some of my interviews, I gave supporters of other candidates a chance to make their case why their choice was superior to Rick. I’ve always figured that if you support a candidate or a position you can’t be afraid of hearing the case for the other side.

5. Newt Gingrich proved that a national profile and a ton of Superpac money isn’t enough when you’ve already been crushed to pieces by millions of dollars of superpac ads.

I like Newt but I think that the “vote for Santorum is a vote for Romney” from Newt is rich, until he actually finishes ahead of Santorum at least once or places in the top 2 once it would seem he not Santorum should be thinking of scooting.

All that being said Newt is kicking ass and taking names in the Fox debate tonight.

6. And Rick Perry has proved that the governorship of one of the largest states of the union, appearing in all the national debates and millions of dollars of superpac and campaign funds can give you just enough traction to edge out Buddy Roemer by 1% and Vermin supreme by under 1000 votes.

Somebody ought to talk to Rick Perry. At the evangelical event in Texas he was eliminated after the first ballot. It was yet another humiliation for a candidate whose handlers have run an inept campaign that has been a collection of humiliations one after the other.

Perry should fire his handlers and pull out while he still has some dignity left. If he waits until he manages a 4th place finish in SC (at BEST) then he can say goodbye to a future run and it might enable and embolden those who want to challenge him in Texas.

It’s a real shame, he’s a better man than this campaign has shown, but if life was fair there would be a Ferris wheel

BTW I mentioned my coverage of the Ovide Lamontagne for NH Governer event. If you want to see my coverage it’s here
Here is my interview with the candidate

I mentioned Abby Johnson above, she is an incredible woman here is some background:

During her eight years with Planned Parenthood, Abby quickly rose in the organization’s ranks and became a clinic director. She was increasingly disturbed by what she witnessed. Abortion was a product Planned Parenthood was selling, not an unfortunate necessity that they fought to decrease. Still, Abby loved the women that entered her clinic and her fellow workers. Despite a growing unrest within her, she stayed on and strove to serve women in crisis.

All of that changed on September 26, 2009 when Abby was asked to assist with an ultrasound-guided abortion. She watched in horror as a 13 week baby fought, and ultimately lost, its life at the hand of the abortionist. At that moment, the full realization of what abortion was and what she had dedicated her life to washed over Abby and a dramatic transformation took place.

Planned Parenthood did not take Abby’s exodus sitting down. They are fully aware that the workers who leave are their greatest threat. Instantly, they took action to silence Abby with a gag order and took her to court. The lawsuit was quickly seen as the sham it was and thrown out of court.

I remember in Concord Rick Santorum standing on science when declaring that Abortion kills a human being, that is a truth, not a theory simple scientific truth that a lot of people want to dance around. Abby Johnson learned it the hard way. That’s why Planned Parenthood is so interested in shutting her up.

Former Obama administration official Elizabeth Warren is all over the net and TV or should I say pacs supporting her are spending money on ad after ad on youtube and blogs. I always click through since it costs her campaign money when I do. Same with all the Allen Grayson ads.

Amazing how the candidate of the occupy moment takes so much dough from the 1%

Scott brown will have his hands full with her, particularly if Romney is on the top of the ticket since he is not inspiring tea party members in the state. Many I’ve talked to said they’ll vote for him, but won’t work for him.

However no matter how bad it might be for Scott Brown at the top of his ticket, Former Obama Administration official will have Obama at the top of her’s. Which one is worse?

I want to congratulate the Pinball Wizard Arcade in Pelham NH on their first anniversary. I am an avid Pinball fan and they have a great collection of machines. Not only is it fun, but if you are frustrated or upset there is nothing better to get something out of your system than a pinball machine.

Some TV. I missed the Big Bang theory this week, it was simply delightful. The character of Amy Farah Fowler is one of the most unhappy people I’ve ever seen on TV, unlike Sheldon her indifference was a mask rather than a reality and the last two seasons is really about her growth, a growth that Sheldon can’t really have within the series. Mayim Bialik plays her absolutely perfectly

If you don’t want to see the big finish then skip ahead

Call me a rank sentimentalist but I could watch this scene over and over again.

And finally some Doctor Who the first of the new Big Finish 4th doctor CD are now coming out staring Tom Baker and Louise Jameson They are going to be a lot of fun.

Meanwhile word as come out that Karen Gillan is leaving Dr. Who during this season. 2 ½ years is a good run for a companion and I’m sure Amy Pond will be back for the 50th anniversary show.

I hope they don’t’ kill her off, I’m sick of that kind of thing, if people want to deal with unpleasant realities they can simply deal with reality, that’s not what my TV shows are for.

Newt Gingrich to Juan Williams: Americans Want Paychecks, Not Foodstamps

Frank Luntz: “I’ve never seen it in a debate and I’ve been doing these debates now for 16 years – a standing ovation in the middle of a debate!”

Dick Morris said, “Newt, Newt, Newt. He was absolutely terrific tonight…he might win on Saturday!”

Kathryn Lopez of National Review said, “This will get watched and re-watched.”

Even the Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza said, “This was the former House Speaker’s best debate of the entire race…Gingrich let ‘er rip tonight and had the exuberant crowd…eating out of his hand.”

Say NO to Wisconsin’s “No Strings” Early Innovator Grant! Say NO to Obamacare!!!

Early last week, a series of clever, wry, and very powerful little videos began to appear on YouTube. The videos are aimed at the State of Wisconsin’s Republican leadership. And it appears that the state’s conservative grassroots has a legitimate bone to pick.

Observe the three brief videos released so far.

Strings #1

Strings #2

Strings #3

Yikes!  Could it possibly be true that Wisconsin’s leadership—which has mostly been tough as nails in standing up to the unions—is now bending to the Feds and taking the state down the road of Obamacare compliance?

You betcha, as they say in the Dairy State.

Right under the noses of most Wisconsinites.

For more on this issue see an article just published on the Wisconsin 9/12 Project’s website. The group has been strongly active in fighting Wisconsin’s Obamacare compliance for the last several months.

If a glance at the Early Innovator Grant application guidelines is any indication, future videos will identify even scarier strings before the series is complete. We’d recommend subscribing to the NoStringsWisconsin YouTube channel to monitor the campaign as it continues to unfold.

More evidence of malware from China – New version of Sykipot malware targets DoD

MRalienvault

More evidence of malware from China attacking the US Department of Defense has been discovered by AlienVault.

According to AlienVault’s Lab manager Jaime Blasco a new version of the Sykipot trojan attempts to compromise DoD smart cards used with ActivIdentity’s ActivClient. These smart cards are standard authentication devices for “identifying active duty military staff, selected reserve personnel, civilian employees, and eligible contractor staff,” comments Blaise.

Earlier versions of the trojan, traces of which were found as long ago as 2006, had been used to open a backdoor into infected PCs. This new version, which may have been in use since March 2011 (a date embedded in the malware’s code), uses a keylogger to steal the smart card PIN number in a smart card proxy attack. “When a card is inserted into the reader”, says Blasco, the malware acts as the authenticated user and can access sensitive information. The malware is then controlled by the attackers and then told what – and when – to steal the appropriate data”, he said.

Earlier versions of Sykipot were found to use command and control servers based in China. AlienVault has discovered Chinese characters in a small snippet of code in the new version, further suggesting a Chinese origin. Like the earlier version, the new Sykipot uses a spear phishing email campaign to target specific users. It attempts to persuade the user to click a link from where the infection is effected.              More

The Euro Downgrades’ Ripple Effects

MReurodowngrade

As investors brace for more stormy markets ahead following the unprecedented string of ratings downgrades that hit Europe last week, advisers say there are ways they can minimize the impact on their portfolios.

Standard & Poor’s stripped France of its triple-A long-term credit rating Friday, as part of a series of ratings actions taken on 16 euro-zone countries. Austria also lost its triple-A status and S&P lowered the ratings on Cyprus, Italy, Portugal and Spain by two notches, among other moves. But it’s the downgrade of Europe’s second-largest economy, France, many pros said was most significant. In fact, some analysts expressed a small amount of relief that France’s downgrade was one notch, and not far worse.

To be sure, market watchers say investors have been expecting the ratings action since S&P put 15 of the 17 euro-zone countries on watch for possible downgrades in December, including, the Netherlands, Austria, Finland and Luxemburg. And while the downgrades have rippled throughout the markets, causing the euro to drop, stocks to sell off and European bond yields to soar, advisers say much of the bad news has already been priced in.

Even so, advisers say investors are rightly concerned. Here are some of the likely consequences for investors in particular — and the portfolio moves that experts say might be warranted.

Bonds

Yields on Spanish, French and Italian bonds rose on the news that S&P could lower the ratings of several countries, which pushed the yield difference between French bonds and safer German bunds up by 0.1 percentage points. But any further yield increases are unlikely because many investors feel the worst case scenario—the risk that France could have been downgraded two notches—has been avoided, says Brendan Murphy, director of global fixed income for Standish Asset Management. That said, demand for Italian and Spanish bonds is likely to remain weak over the next couple of months, and yields are likely to stay high, while investors wait for more stable signs of a resolution of the debt crisis, says Popplewell.

How stable are cruise ships like the Costa Concordia?

MRcostaconcordia

One of Europe’s largest cruise ships, the Costa Concordia, carrying 4200 passengers and crew, suffered a fatal and spectacular accident on Saturday. The vessel was holed on rocks off the Italian island of Giglio – and then quickly keeled over, preventing lifeboats on its port side from being lowered and trapping some passengers and crew in the bowels of the ship. At 12:00 GMT today, six people had been confirmed dead and a further 15 were missing. So how stable and safe are these vertiginous floating multistorey hotels?

Why was this massive ship so close to shallow rock outcrops?
Mark Staunton-Lambert, technical director of the London-based Royal Institution of Naval Architects, says this is the main question investigators will want answering. GPS and sonar instruments should have warned of the danger, he says.

Why might the Costa Concordia’s depth-sounding sonar have been ignored?
Like aviation, seafaring is in the midst of major computerisation, with bridges in modern ships like Costa Concordia becoming “glass cockpits”. The transnational maritime trade union Nautilus International says that the technology at the heart of this – the Electronic Charts Display and Information System (ECDIS), which marries GPS and seabed sonar data in one screen – can be a problem. First, it says that the data on seabed obstacles can be out of date; second, the system generates too many alarms that can lead mariners to ignore them. “The ECDIS screens are only as good as the data that goes into them,” says Nautilus spokesman Andrew Limington. “And there are major problems with their user interfaces and ergonomics.”            More
