Syria: Iran Sends the Death Star

As the Syrian regime of President Assad moves against its domestic enemies, Iran provides fresh proof of its determination to protect the mullahs’ critical forward base on the Israeli border. Kassam Salimani, commander of the Quds Force, the special forces unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, has arrived on the scene to help the Syrian military. The Quds Force has fought in Iraq and is heavily involved with Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy force in Lebanon. The outlook looks grim for the rebel city of Hom, which Assad appears determined to crush.

These depressing events can be linked to the Obama Administration’s most spectacular foreign policy miscalculation- the decision to give the Iranian theocracy a pass on the stolen election of 2009, its ongoing belligerent interventionism in Arab states, and Iranian sponsorship of terrorism and violent suppression of political opposition.
