Flake has 49-point lead over Cardon in GOP Senate race, poll says
From the Arizona Republic:
Rep. Jeff Flake continues to maintain a massive lead in the Republican primary race to replace retiring Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.
A new poll released Monday by Public Policy Polling, a Democratic firm based in North Carolina, indicates Flake, a six-term congressman from Mesa, is the runaway frontrunner in the race with 56 percent support. Mesa investor Wil Cardon, Flake’s chief GOP rival, was a very distant second at 7 percent. Cardon, who has been using his personal wealth to help fund his campaign, is barely ahead of several minor candidates in the race. Another 31 percent remains undecided in the race.
Here is the breakdown of the automated telephone survey of 412 likely Arizona GOP primary voters:
Flake … 56 percent
Cardon … 7 percent
Former Youngtown Mayor Bryan Hackbarth … 5 percent
Fort Mohave contractor Douglas McKee … 1 percent
Conservative radio host Clair “Van” Van Steenwyk … 1 percent
Political newcomer John Lyon … 0 percent.
Undecided … 31 percent.
