Bankrupting America Releases Debt Ceiling Briefing Book

Arlington, Va. - Bankrupting America, a project of Public Notice, today released its Debt Ceiling Briefing Book, which will act as an introduction to the 113th Congress and explain the fiscal challenges that Washington will debate and the consequences of governing from crisis to crisis. The book focuses on the upcoming policy debates in Washington surrounding the debt ceiling, sequester spending cuts and funding the federal government.

Public Notice Executive Director Gretchen Hamel issued the following statement:

“By cutting through the rhetoric to present the facts in a clear, easy-to-understand manner, we hope that our briefing book will help educate Americans about our current fiscal situation and political hurdles ahead. When it comes to controlling spending, it seems that Washington is incapable of taking meaningful action without a major crisis breathing down our necks.  This book is a dose of economic reality without the political spin.”

The Debt Ceiling Briefing Book is part of Bankrupting America’s ongoing “Talk Is Cheap, Overspending Is Not” campaign, which features metro advertising on Capitol Hill, a web video detailing America’s failure to control its growing debt and constant engagement on social media using the twitter hashtag #TalkIsCheap.  The campaign seeks to hold Washington lawmakers accountable for promises to cut wasteful spending and get America’s debt and deficits under control.
