A Conservative Call to Arms

Tagged:
With Senator Barack Obama all but wrapping up his nomination, it is time for conservatives to prepare for the battle ahead. I will not lie: We face an uphill battle in this election. Our current President faces all time historic lows in approval ratings. The Republican name is sour. We are in the middle of an increasingly unpopular war. But despite all of this, I am optimistic for the future of the Republican Party and the upcoming elections. Why?

The Onion Jumps the Shark

It was bound to happen eventually. The infamous team of depressives over at The Onion (now a wholly-owned subsidiary of MoveOn.Org) has finally produced an offensive parody of the Pope that doesn't really shock anyone, considering the source, and doesn't even make the people who are supposed to get the joke laugh. This comes on the heels of their ONN piece on John McCain and the secret service, the title of which was revised because as originally written, it sounded like McCain was begging for an assassination attempt. For anyone who missed it, the title of that story has changed within the past 36 hours on their website, after what I can only guess was a little afterthought on the part of The Onion's editors. I guess they weren't intersted in a visit from the actual secret service after joking that the Senator was calling for his own assassination.

GWB's approval rating much higher than Truman's [& Jimmy after four years was almost as unpopular]

The Explainer gives a left-wing lame explanation on how all the glaring headlines about Bush's highest disapproval rating are true---except GWB's approval rating is higher than Truman's was at 22% when HST declined to run again---cuz he'd have lost for sure. And Truman's lowest lows were after less than seven years, not seven & a half like GWB.

So when the media keep coming across with "most unpopular president ever," it's one of those half-truths the left specializes in.

McGovern, former Clinton backer, endorses Obama

Former Sen. George McGovern, an early supporter of Hillary Rodham Clinton, urged her to drop out of the Democratic presidential race and endorsed her rival, Barack Obama.

After watching the returns from the North Carolina and Indiana primaries Tuesday night, McGovern said Wednesday it's virtually impossible for Clinton to win the nomination. The 1972 Democratic presidential nominee said he had a call in to former President Clinton to tell him of the decision, adding that he remains close friends with the Clintons.

"I will hold them in affection and admiration all of my days," he said of the Clintons.

Though not a superdelegate, former Sen. George McGovern is one of the most respected so-called heavy-hitters in the Democrat Party and his decision, coming last night as he watched the returns from North Carolina and Indiana, to switch his support from Hillary to Obama all but signals how most superdelegates are feeling to day. In fact on Drudge's front page he's got a developing story saying that Hillary is having trouble finding superdelegates who will take a meeting with her today.

Indiana's Voter ID Holds Up Well During Primary

After the Supreme Court upheld one of the strictest voter ID laws in the land last month by a 6-3 ruling, it was rumored that it would have damaging effects on the outcome of last nights primary but effects were mild at best.

Aside from literally a buss full of nuns being turned away from the polls last night there were only scattered incidences of the ID law causing problems.
