The upside of economic depression.

In my new effort to look on the bright side of life, I find evidence that even a severe economic downturn can perhaps be, well, an overall plus for our country...

Illegal immigration, which has sparked political and social turmoil in communities across the nation, is on the wane, according to an independent report released Thursday.

OK, let's recap for a moment...

Help me out here, brothers and sisters. Do I have this about right?

We are on the verge of a $3 TRILLION federal government.

The federal government has, for all intents and purposes, taken over a significant chunk of the mortgage industry - and there's talk on Capitol Hill that the take-overs of Freddy and Fanny are just the beginning.

Declaring that clergy have a constitutional right to endorse political candidates from their pulpits, the socially conservative Alliance Defense Fund is recruiting several dozen pastors to do just that on Sept. 28, in defiance of Internal Revenue Service rules.

Because I cannot really improve upon what was said on this score by Gabriel Malor let me just quote him at length below the fold...

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Out with friends at a local eating establishment last evening I had occasion to watch (after the Giants' victory over the listless Redskins) Sen. John McCain accept what he said was "our party's nomination for President of the United States".

The problem is that once again, on balance, I'm not really at all certain that Sen. McCain and I belong to the same party.

So STFD and STFU. Now. Moron.

Will President Obama OK "truth commissions" for former Bush Administration officials?

One thing that hasn't received much attention in conservative and Republicans circles is the ongoing conversation on the left about the possibility of Nuremberg-style war-crimes trials for members of the Bush administration should a Democratic president take office.

There are times when it's actually kinda fun to live in Massachusetts.

This, however, isn't one of those times.

The House is about to begin much anticipated debate on whether out-of-state gay couples should be allowed to wed in Massachusetts.

You can bet your sweet bippy that said repeal wouldn't be coming up for debate unless it was going to pass - and probably with margin.

The surge in Iraq has been a success by any measure, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said during a news conference July 23.

Well, he's paid to say that. But let's get a little specific below the fold...

Peters points-out the obvious - brilliantly, as usual.

AM I the only one who's noticed the silence? Mere months ago, left-wing bloggers and demonstrators were wailing Support our troops, bring them home! seven days a week.

Now their presidential candidate has announced that he won't bring all those troops home, but will simply transfer combat forces from Iraq to Afghanistan - expanding that war. (He's discussed possibly invading Pakistan, too.)

And the left's quiet as a graveyard at midnight.
