IT'S TIME TO TAKE A HARD LOOK AT BOTH THE LONG WAR AND THE SHORT WAR, THEN DO THE RIGHT THING

Originally posted at RedState - edited mildly to reflect the fact that TMR is largely ALREADY Fred country, and there's no need to tell non-FH's to make nice and stay away ;o)

My fellow Fredheads, let's have a little heart-to-heart, shall we?

Fund the troops NOW, Democrats - can we call it treason yet?

UNPATRIOTIC DEMOCRATS WEARING OUT THEIR ONE-TRICK PONY
a TMR exclusive

15 months ago, the Bush administration put in its emergency spending request for the ongoing military occupation and rebuilding of Iraq, aka "the Iraq war". The Previous request had been used as a political football by congressional Democrats -- delayed, had funding approved but attached to demands to precipitiously abandon Iraq - guaranteed veto-getters -- before finally, grudgingly allowing the funding to be partially approved, and seemingly designed to be as unhelpful as possible.

Fredheadedness 2 - Conservatism School Back in Session

RUSSELL KIRK DESCRIBES CORE CONSERVATIVE VALUES IN THE TRADITION OF EDMUND BURKE, ALEXANDER HAMILTON, WM F BUCKLEY, AND GOLDWATER. CONSERVATISM IS, QUITE LITERALLY, WHATEVER HE SAYS IT IS. Republicans need to embrace America’s conservative roots which made her great in the first place

Here’s a question for ya. Why do REPUBLICANS need to embrace conservatism? Why do I say that? Shouldn’t DEMOCRATS also embrace conservatism? Shouldn’t Martians, tall people, and people who love horses also embrace conservatism (that’s for you, C)?

In point of fact, yes. EVERYBODY should embrace conservatism. But we are Republicans, and operating the political machinery of the nation to benefit the nation is our business. We’re smart, realistic, handsome (or beautiful), we shop at Home Depot, and we love America better than we love political power. The Dems can say those things too, but they are lying when they do so. So let’s start with us, and we’ll get to the others as time allows.

Rehash - Viking funeral for Warrior-Chieftain Fred

To our leader: you left a hole in our lives, you will be missed. What you taught us will not be forgotten.

We've had 3 months to lick our wounds, bury our dead, and otherwise contemplate the deeper things of life since Fred's demise after the South Carolina primary. We've gotten to see what our party (well, plus media, crossover voters in purple states, etc) selected as our nominee. We've gotten to see what that guy does once he has the nomination sewn up. In sum, his behavior has been thoroughly predictable, and indeed, predicted. I am left with this:

The Fredheads were exactly right. Our guy was by far the best choice - not only in terms of electability (because once his timeless message started to reach the masses, well, it would be all over), but in terms of being the right man with the right message and the right principles and leadership to lead us in these perilous and undemocratic times. There is no substitute for conservatism.

We were right. Spot on, dead solid perfect right. Our guy is dead, and we wish he were here. Long live YOU, Fred. Your message changed me. We pick up the torch, and we are starting, even now, to make conservatism the REAL message and vehicle of hope and change. The day after the 2008 elections, we start the war in earnest..

EPU says goodbye to Fred Thompson

To the Fredheads, come on in. To the non-Fredheads -- this memorial is not for you. Just move along. McCain love ain't that hard to find - just hard to find in an EPU post.

Shame on Coburn! conservatives did not bring us Medicare Prescription Entitlement

Promoted with thanks to EPU for bringing this here - Steven

Look, Coburn and the rest of you guys can sing McCain's praises all you want. I don't deny that he has his good points. And I have been until recently a huge Coburn fan.

But it is pure underhanded crap for Coburn to accuse CONSERVATIVES in Congressional positions of power of being the ones who led the Republican Party to bigger government, higher spending, and that massive prescription drug entitlement.

So this is where everybody has been hanging out? I should have known. Quite an impressive crew you have on the board there, Steve. Some of my favorites.

Steve Foley suggested that I cross-post here a diary I wrote at RedState today , a diary that was not extremely well-received at RS, decrying Senator Coburn's swipe at Santorum's swipe at McCain - everybody follow all that? I'll be posting that one in a minute.
