Hillary Concedes Defeat - Endorses McCain

Tagged:

In a not-so-surprising move, Hillary Clinton has conceded defeat in the race for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. Realizing that she no longer had a chance to obtain her party’s nomination, she thanked her supporters and admonished them that there was still much more work to do to keep the White House in experienced hands.

During her speech, she shocked voters by giving her endorsement to her potential rival Senator John McCain, the Republican nominee for President.

I had a good time covering the Republican Convention in Broomfield, Colorado. Bloggers were given press credentials this time, so I was there with other Rocky Mountain Alliance v2.0 bloggers, Ben from Mount Virtus and El Presidente from Slapstick Politics. We live-blogged part of the festivites at The Minority Report.

(Update) Thanks to Mount Virtus and Slapstick Politics for joining the live blog. They and I are part of the Rocky Mountain Alliance 2.0, Slapstick has video of many of the speeches. I’ll post a blog later about my observations of the Convention. - NT

I was given a press credential for the Colorado State Republican Convention tomorrow morning. The Convention begins at 9:30am. It appears that there will be separate events for each District. If that is the case, I will be at the 4th District event. This is the district represented by Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave, which includes Fort Collins where I live.

TMR has graciously offerred the opportunity for me to Live Blog this event here. Look for this to begin around 9:30am MDT.

Musgrave Leads Charge to Support Farm Bill

According to U.S. House Representative Marilyn Musgrave's (CO-4) website, she plans to lead the fight to override President Bush's veto of the the recent Farm Bill. The bill passed, but there appears to be a technical issue that will require a new vote by both the House and the Senate, then another override by both Chambers.

Rep. Musgrave champions the provisions for food stamps and food banks.

The People's Republic of Boulder, Colorado has tasked a committee with determining whether or not Homeowners should pay tax for short-term rentals on their homes as reported by the Daily Camera. Sheila Horton (Boulder Area Rental Housing Assoc) states:

Quote:
We are seeing an increasing number of property owners doing short-term rentals who are not under motel or hotel licensing," Horton said. "They're not paying the tax. They fall into this kind of no man's land.

Colorado Representative Douglas Bruce (I-Colorado Springs)

Right Witch has a blog up regarding Representative Douglas Bruce (R-Colorado Springs) called Representative Savant. She recently interviewed Bruce to discuss some of the statements that he's made on the House floor and elsewhere.

Bruce talks about things that are important to Republicans, such as:

Quote:
"...faithfully committed to limited government."
"I’d like to get the Republicans back in the fight."
"I’m helping them focus on principles."
"We should focus on doing what’s right."

CSU May Silence Hurricane Forecast Pioneer

Tagged:

According to an article in the Houston Chronicle, Colorado State University will no longer promote Atlantic Hurricane Forecasts by Professor William Gray. Professor Gray is a pioneer of Hurricane forecasting, and is generally considered the top expert in his field. He is also very outspoken in his opposition to the Climate Change (or Global Warming, if you prefer) hysteria.

CSU claims this has nothing to do with his statements on Climate Change.

The Art of Political Compromise

Or, how to use the political process to promote your personal convictions without compromising your principles.

I'd like to preface this blog with a statement about my position on life. I'm solidly pro-life. I believe abortion is always wrong, except to save the life of the mother. I'm also opposed to euthanasia and stem-cell research on fertilized eggs. I've been a board member of two Crisis Pregnancy Centers.

I often find myself engaging in a discussion about political compromise. There are those on both sides of the political landscape that believe they should never support a political candidate unless he or she agrees with them on every point. Any deviation from strict adherence to doctrine puts that politician outside the camp. I call these voters Single Issue Values Voters. I wrote a blog about them and their influence over the Presidential primaries back in February.
