Much has been made about the recent surge of grassroots activism. Tea Parties, organizations such as the American Liberty Alliance, Rebuild The Party, and others, and online activist websites such as RedState.com, The Minority Report, and The Peoples Press Collective have either come into existence or had a significant increase in membership and participation. Ordinary people are taking time out from work and family to speak their minds concerning the growing trend towards government control of more and more areas of their lives.

Rationing DeathCare

Tagged:

Much has been said about how healthcare will have to be rationed under the Universal Health Care proposals being put forth by President Obama and the Democrat-led Congress. If they are successful in getting their plan enacted, it will only be a matter of time before the government has complete control over not only our healthcare, but our deathcare as well.

Anecdotal stories never tell the entire story, but are good for showing what’s behind certain government policies. Since the healthcare system in the United Kingdom is often put forth by Universal Healthcare proponents, I thought I’d share a story about a funeral that took place recently, which I believe shows what’s happens when you put the government in charge of something so personal and filled with emotion.

They're So Not Into You

One of the staffers for a Congressman in Washington was overheard by a lobbyist discussing the calls they’d been receiving regarding the stimulus bill. Congressman Dr. Broun of Georgia was on the Dontgo Movement radio program last night to share what the lobbyist had told him about the conversation. The Digital Journal has the story. Here’s the important excerpt.

The Lobbyist had just left the office of a fellow Democrat Congressman. During his visit in that office the staffers had admitted that they had received a high volume of calls, and they were overwhelmingly against the Stimulus Bill. The Democrat Congressman staffer’s response was, “oh, they are just people.”

You're Both Wrong

Much has been said about the last couple of elections, the most recent one being analyzed from every conceivable angle. Of these analyses, the ones I hear most often have to do with the pro-life platform. On one side are the Rockefeller Republicans, who believe that the platform is too rigid, and thereby excludes moderates from participating with the Party who would otherwise identify more closely with them than the Democrats. On the other side are Single Issue Values Voters, who believe they never get what they want and continue to lose ground on the issue most important to them.

Getting Connected in Colorado

Political activism is more than waxing philosophical and eviscerating politicians on blog sites and broadcast email messages. Real political activism is hard, time-consuming, and often boring, repetitive work. It means going to city council, county supervisor, and school board meetings. It’s walking precincts, making phone calls, and attending local political meetings. It also means being informed, and joining with others in keeping your representatives accountable. All of these things are the impetus behind this blog.

Knowing where to get timely information about what’s going on in your State is a huge part of the battle, especially in these days of information overload. We all have day jobs, family responsibilities and/or friends, and hopefully other interests. It’s actually alright to not know everything that’s going on everywhere all the time. Having access to the most important information means getting connected. Networking is vital to success in political activism.

Conservatives Create Opportunities, Not Programs: Education

Tagged:

This is the first in a series of conservative solution proposals. I have no idea how many more I will do. I just know that we have to have an answer to the programs the liberals and conservatives have been implementing for the past couple of decades.

For the past eight years (some might say twenty), conservatives in government have been acting like democrats. We’ve seen program after program implemented, give more and more control of our lives over to the government. This flies in the face of the true conservative principle of limited government. This, I believe, has been our greatest failure, and has resulted in being marginalized and beaten at the voting booth. We will never be able to out-program the Democrats.
