Amazing Grace -- Il Divo

Why? For no other reason than this is the most beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace that I have ever heard.

I was on my knees at the time, trying to sing while bawling like a baby and thanking Jesus for taking Hell for me.

But I agree, that's beautiful.

it had been so long since I had seen your name that I feared we had lost you.

Don't be a stranger.

I really don't think it is because they like it or understand it. It's just because Joan Baez did it, so it must be cool. Gotta admit that I like the "call and repeat" style that Baez used in "From Every Stage," though just as with the original usage of call and repeat, it was all about the audience's illiteracy as to gospel music.

Anyway, I like Il Divo, and most any other good singer(s), and that's a nice rendition. Thank you for sharing it.

"Subject to change without notice"

Sweet voices, impressive backdrop, and the bagpipers were an unexpected touch.

Unfortunately, the whole performance seemed very homogenized and lacked passionate intensity, as though one's life depended on God's grace, which is what John Newton certainly knew and believed.

The group also dropped two of my favorite verses, which I suppose is because they don't fit into the current popular ecumenical packaging of this song.

The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be
So long as life endures.

The earth will soon dissolve like snow,
The sun refuse to shine,
But God who called me here below
Will be forever mine.

And Rightly So!
