... except it's always a little more interesting when a top aide to our Governor - Deval "Together We Can!"TM Patrick (D) - gets caught allegedly in flagrante delicto with a 15-year old boy, that is...
A top official in the Patrick administration has been placed on unpaid leave because he was arrested in Florida and charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old male in a steam room at a $500-a-night Gulf Coast resort.Carl Stanley McGee, 38, assistant secretary for policy and planning, is scheduled to be arraigned next week for sexual battery in Lee County, Fla.
$500 a night, eh? Who said "public service" needed to be a sacrifice!
But what was it, precisely, that Mr. McGee was doing for the Governor-in-Training-Wheels? Well, in the next sentence we find out...
McGee helped draft Patrick's casino bill, life sciences legislation, and his plan to bring broadband Internet service to the farthest reaches of the state.
Seems normal enough, but it's only until much, much later in the Globe-Democrat piece that we learn...
He was instrumental in the movement seeking to defeat efforts to overturn legalization of same-sex marriage, serving as director of the civic and business outreach efforts of the advocacy group MassEquality.
Ah, so he was a key cog in the machine to stop the people of Massachusetts from actually being able to have a direct say on what is and is not a marriage! Well, isn't that interesting, eh? Odd that the Globe-Democrat chose to bury that little factoid in the middle of the story. Acutally, it was placed just before...
A year after same-sex marriage became legal in Massachusetts in May 2004, McGee's wedding to John Finley IV was highlighted in the "Vows" section of The New York Times. Former state senator Jarrett T. Barrios officiated.
Well, that's of course shocking as well. Oh, but wait...
Known for his shock of platinum hair, McGee was named one of The Boston Globe's 25 most stylish Bostonians in November.
I doubt that the Globe-Democrat was commenting on his, erm, extra-cirricular activities when they made that distinction. But this also provides a wonderful lead-in to the next line (wait for it... wait for IT...)
In the article, he described his style as "traditional, but it's also subversive and ironic."
The Globe may be making it up folks, but I am not.
I'll spare you further details of the story - they're in the linked article if you want to see for yourself the sort of folks Coupe Deval has on his staff in $150K-plus position. But there is one little parting shot that I will leave you with before, well, parting...
Two days after his arrest (for the sexual assault), he was stopped for speeding in the same Florida county and assessed a $181.50 fine.
Now that's just being gratuitous, don't you think? I mean, hadn't the poor guy already suffered enough???
Ah, there are some days when it's just fun to live behind enemy lines.
