It would seem the question is perfectly legitimate - and ought to be asked.
One thing that hasn't received much attention in conservative and Republicans circles is the ongoing conversation on the left about the possibility of Nuremberg-style war-crimes trials for members of the Bush administration should a Democratic president take office.
Ah, so this is what Obama means by "bridging the partisan divide" and somesuch pablum, eh? Yep, hauling former officials of the prior administration before "Nuremberg-style war-crimes trials" is sure to work wonders. Yes sir.
At the Netroots Nation gathering in Austin, Texas last month — that is the successor to YearlyKos — Dahlia Lithwick, of the Washington-Post-owned website Slate, did an interview with the Talking Points Memo site in which she described a panel discussion she had just taken part in on what is known as the "first 100 days of accountability."
I suspect such an exercise would go about as well as the much-heralded but spectacularly oversold "first 100 days" of the Speaker-in-law's regime. But you never know.
Lithwick recommended a massive retrospective investigation of the Bush administration, going through every piece of paper, before moving forward...
Sure, because multiple bipartisan congressional investigations, several foreign commissions and scores of Democrat operatives looking over the course of years for anything they can with which to bring to impeachment proceedings against Chimpy McBushitlerBurtonCo weren't enough.
Here's a thought for the Nutroots - why don't you just go the way of your heroes Uncles Ugo and Bobby (Mugabe) and start plans for the criminalization of the Republicn Party should St. Barack manage to cobble together an electoral majority on November 4th?
At least that would be an honest approach to politics, for a change.
I think the thing to emphasize here is that this is a serious conversation going on among people who might have influential voices or play influential roles in an Obama administration. ... They are serious.
Indeed - which gets back to my original point. Is not this something we need to be asking of The Chosen One and his apostles?
I, for one, would very much like to know.
