The upside of economic depression.

In my new effort to look on the bright side of life, I find evidence that even a severe economic downturn can perhaps be, well, an overall plus for our country...

Illegal immigration, which has sparked political and social turmoil in communities across the nation, is on the wane, according to an independent report released Thursday.

The number of illegal immigrants entering the United States has slowed significantly the past few years, falling below the number of those entering the country legally, according to the report by the Pew Hispanic Center, a Washington think tank.

Sing it with me Sisters and Brothers... Always look on the bright side of life ... (whistles)

Quote:
The report estimates there were 11.9 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. as of March. That would be a decline of 500,000 from the center's estimate a year ago. However, the change was not statistically significant because of the large margins of error.

Oh, don't go harshing my vibe there, pal. I'll take a statistically insignificant decline in this particular stat at this point - thank you very much.

Quote:
The Pew study does not address why the decrease occurred, but other researchers cite the nation's struggling economy and stepped up enforcement of immigration laws.

... and I, for one, welcome our new Obambi overlords!

Quote:
"The decline in job prospects in construction, service and other low-skilled jobs are communicated through extended networks of would-be movers from Mexico and Latin America," said William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution, another Washington think tank. "It also may propel more return migration."

Oh Billy, don't tease me like that!

And cue Eric Idle, will ya!

Always look on the bright... side of life (de dum, de dum-pe-dum-pe-dum-pe-dum)...

Here is an article about the fed chairman during the time of the Great Depression and what he thought caused it. The same thing is happening again for the same reasons. Please read:

[Article removed for two reasons:

  2. Too Much Magazine? Seriously. People need to understand that greed runs the world. That is a good thing. Greed drives your every daily activity. Why do we work? Greed. Second, inequality doesn’t matter. All attempts to solve inequality simply lower those at the top and do nothing to help those at the bottom. Important lesson to learn.

Riddle me this - in those many, many places where the sorts of redistributionist tax policies you evidently advocate are already in place, are the people of those lands - which cover pretty much every place on earth not within the boundaries of the United States - "considerably more caring, prosperous, and democratic" (as your own resourced website puts it) than they are in the US?

Really?

Nope, I didn't think so either.

So, if the redistributionist tax policies of every other nation on earth do not make them "considerably more caring, prosperous, and democratic" than we, why should I give two shakes of a rat's tail what FDR's Fed Chaiman wrote regarding a completely different financial world than we find today?

defense of his policies, it is pretty much understood that the policies of FDR and the New Deal worsened and continued the Great Depression more than a decade beyond what would have been a normal recession.

The New Socialists of today are determined to revisit all of the mistakes they made decades ago. Like Communism, Socialism is a system that fails every time it is allowed to fester..

The ONLY thing that finally brought the United States out of the Great Depression was our entry into WWII. In case your memory is faulty, more than 50 million people died in that war.

Today the world plays with nuclear weapons. Not a viable way to end the Obama Great Depression.
