In the aftermath of watching Sarah Barracuda kill, field dress, and cube the Obama-Biden-media ticket, we largely decided at the EPU watch party to skip the expected and highly appropriate FNC love-in. After all, she DID kill, she did exceed expectations, and she did toss plenty of red meat to redstaters everywhere. So we didn't need Hannity and Rove to tell us that.
Instead, we decided to check out what the Democratic Party was saying. And what better place to go straight to the source than CNN and MSNBC - the official media outlet of the Obama-Biden-media ticket.
Without going to the trouble of cites and lengthy discussion, here's what the media-Dem response was to the Palin speech (and to the entire convention, apparently).
Nobody is talking about the economy, what to do about the economy, the worst economy since the Dark Ages, the Bush economy, the Bush unemployment crisis, etc, etc, etc. Olbermann -- a near-adequate sportscaster but possibly the worst newsy of all time -- was absolutely visibly frothing at the mouth, waving a notepad and talking about 'discrepancies' and outright lies in the Palin speech, and we're looking into possible evidence that this or that was untrue, and so forth.
But the answer to EVERY question by various pundits, CNN and MSNBC analysts was 'but nobody said anything about the economy - they are scared to talk about the economy'. It was pretty cute, actually. And just for the record, with love from EPU and TMR to CNN, MSNBC, and the rest of the Democratic Party:
We DID talk about the economy - alot!
- When Palin talks about domestic drilling and the North Slope - THAT is talking about the economy.
- When she said we must do so in order to quit funding countries that hate us - that is the economy - and interestingly enough, that is ALSO about foreign policy, another topic she supposedly knows nothing about.
- Vetoing half a billion bucks in porking - economy.
- Breaking the hold of special interests? That's right. The economy.
- Getting that gas pipe up to provide the Lower 48 with an insane amount of natural gas? Yep - the economy.
- Lower taxes - yes, about the ECONOMY
- Lowering burdensome regulations, ending death taxes, making Americans more free, instead of having to 'take our orders from Washington' - the economy.
Got it, Democrats? We ARE talking about the economy. Our idea of talking about the economy does not involve higher taxes, crippling regulatory burdens, and pander-bear giveaways. No wonder you didn't recognize it.

Making jobs promises that they know they can’t deliver
Pitting employees against their employers. Two groups that should be working together to create wealth.
Drafting legislation that merely shifts the burden of bad decisions from those that made them to those that didn’t [i.e bailing the banks out with the mortgage relief bill]
That’s talking about the economy to the Democrats.
I think I can say, and say with pride, that we have legislatures that bring higher prices than any in the world. ~ Mark Twain
