FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS, ALLEGED COMMUNIST, WAS EARLY INFLUENCE ON BARACK OBAMA

New details about a black poet in Hawaii who was a key early influence in Barack Obama’s life can be revealed by The Telegraph.

Although identified only as Frank in Mr Obama’s memoir Dreams from My Father, it has now been established that he was Frank Marshall Davis, a radical activist and journalist who had been suspected of being a member of the Communist Party in the 1950s.

Obama's true colours: Making of the man who would be US president

Mr Davis moved to Honolulu from Chicago in 1948 with his second wife Helen Canfield, a white socialite, at the suggestion of his friend the actor Paul Robeson, who advised them that there would be more tolerance of a mixed race couple in Hawaii than on the American mainland.

A bohemian libertine who drank heavily and loved jazz, he became friends with Stanley Dunham, Mr Obama’s maternal grandfather in the 1960s. Mr Davis died in 1987 at the age of 81, five years before Mr Dunham.

“He knew Stan real well,” said Dawna Weatherly-Williams, a close friend of Mr Davis “They’d play Scrabble and drink and crack jokes and crack jokes and argue. Frank always won and he was always very braggadocio about it too. It was all jocular. They didn’t get polluted drunk. And Frank never really did drugs, though he and Stan would smoke pot together.”

While his mother was in Indonesia during part of his teenage years, Mr Obama lived with his white grandparents. Mrs Weatherly-Williams said that the poet was first introduced to the future Democratic presidential candidate in 1970 at the age of 10.

“Stan had been promising to bring Barry by because we all had that in common - Frank’s kids were half-white, Stan’s grandson was half-black and my son was half-black. We all had that in common and we all really enjoyed it. We got a real kick out of reality.”

Maya Soetoro-Ng, Obama's half-sister, told the Associated Press recently that her grandfather had seen Mr Davis was “a point of connection, a bridge if you will, to the larger African-American experience for my brother".

In his memoir, Mr Obama recounts how he visited Mr Davis on several occasions, apparently at junctures when he was grappling with racial issues, to seek his counsel. At one point in 1979 Mr Davis described university as “an advanced degree in compromise” that was designed to keep blacks in their place.

Mr Obama quoted him as saying: “Leaving your race at the door. Leaving your people behind. Understand something, boy. You’re not going to college to get educated. You’re going there to get trained.”

He added that “they’ll tank on your chain and let you know that you may be a well-trained, well-paid nigger, but you’re a nigger just the same.”

It has also been established that Mr Davis, who divorced in 1970, was the author of a hard-core pornographic autobiography published in San Diego in 1968 by Greenleaf Classics under the pseudonym Bob Greene.

In a surviving portion of an autobiographical manuscript, Mr Davis confirms that he was the author of Sex Rebel: Black after a reader had noticed the “similarities in style and phraseology” between the pornographic work and his poetry.

“I could not then truthfully deny that this book, which came out in 1968 as a Greenleaf Classic, was mine.” In the introduction to Sex Rebel, Mr Davis (writing as Greene) explains that although he has “changed names and identities…all incidents I have described have been taken from actual experiences”.

He stated that “under certain circumstances I am bisexual” and that he was “ a voyeur and an exhibitionist” who was “occasionally mildly interested in sado-masochism”, adding: “I have often wished I had two penises to enjoy simultaneously the double – but different – sensations of oral and genital copulation.”

The book, which closely tracks Mr Davis’s life in Chicago and Hawaii and the fact that his first wife was black and his second white, describes in lurid detail a series of shockingly sordid sexual encounters, often involving group sex.

One chapter concerns the seduction by Mr Davis and his first wife of a 13-year-old girl called Anne. Mr Davis wrote that it was the girl who had suggested he had sex with her. “I’m not one to go in for Lolitas. Usually I’d rather not bed a babe under 20.

“But there are exceptions. I didn’t want to disappoint the trusting child. At her still-impressionistic age, a rejection might be traumatic, could even cripple her sexually for life.”

He then described how he and his wife would have sex with the girl. “Anne came up many times the next several weeks, her aunt thinking she was in good hands. Actually she was.

“She obtained a course in practical sex from experienced and considerate practitioners rather than from ignorant insensitive neophytes….I think we did her a favour, although the pleasure was mutual.”

On other occasions, Mr Davis would cruise in Hawaii parks looking for couples or female tourists to have sex with. He derived sexual gratification from bondage, simulated rape and being flogged and urinated on.

He boasted that “the number of white babes interested in at least one meeting with a Negro male has been far more than I can handle” and wished “America were as civilised as, say, Scandinavia”. He concluded: “I regret none of my experiences or unusual appetites; for me they are normal.”

According to Mrs Weatherly-Williams, Mr Davis lost touch with Mr Dunham some time in the 1980s. John Edgar Tidwell, who wrote the introduction to Davis's memoir and edited a collection of his work, said that there was no mention of Mr Dunham or Mr Obama in any of Mr Davis’s papers.

FRANK DAVIS AND THE DECEPTION OF PORNOGRAPHY

By Lisa Derrick

Posted October 15, 2008 | 12:16 PM (EST)

I wrote pornography for a living-well, okay for pin money to pay for my addiction to books and fancy face cleansers. You can't really make a living scrawling smut, but you can supplement your cash flow a bit, and you are getting paid to write. And in general, porn is sexier in the first person because the person reading becomes the person doing. Witness the success of Penthouse Forum. Those um, aren't real.

Nor were the things I created out of my silly little mind while working for Larry Flynt, slaving away over a hot keyboard clad only in a vintage silk slip and a light floral perfume as I waited for my petite, punky girlfriend to come over so we could order a large sausage....pizza. You know, for research.

Memoirs which nowadays clutter bookstore shelves have become the hot new literary commodity, shoving fiction to the floor with a hard thud. Readers want the guilty joy of knowing what they are reading happened in real life. Just like those Penthouse Forum letters. Ah, the schadenfreude of lust and remorse. And more than a few of those, like A Million Little Pieces and Love and Consequences, pack as much veracity as my 2,500 word feature for Larry Flynt about women who think hand guns are sexy...very...very...sexy.

Which brings me to Frank Marshall Davis, the bohemian author who was introduced to Barack Obama in Hawaii by the then-ten year old Barack's grandparents. Davis, who had risen to prominence as a poet and journalist during the Depression and the Second World War, was lauded by many readers. But by the late 1940s and early 1950s he was also the target of careful scrutiny by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Born in 1905, Davis worked as a journalist for a number of newspapers, eventually becoming as the executive editor for the American Negro Press, as well as publishing several books of poetry. He was close friends with Paul Robeson, the actor/singer/activist, and like many intelligensia, affected and influenced by Communism which at that time held the vibe of being some ideal oasis of Utopian civilization, seemingly free of racism, which made it even more alluring to Robeson and Davis.

After moving to Hawaii in 1948, Davis continued to work as a journalist, penning a weekly column for the Honolulu Record, published by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. In 1950 the House Un-American Activities Committee accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations.

In Hawaii, Davis concentrated on writing for the Record until it closed in 1958, while running a small paper company and raising his five children with his wife Helen, a Chicago socialite whom he had married in 1946. No doubt Obama's grandfather saw Davis' biracial children as peers for "Barry" as he was known then, and Davis himself as a potential role model.

Davis had published little poetry between 1948 and his final volume, Awakening, and Other Poems in 1978, but there was a revival of interest in his work during the Blacks Arts Movement of the 1960s. His porn book Sex Rebel: Black was published in 1968 by Greenleaf Classics, a busy smut-house which churned out stroke books at a steady pace; and while Sex Rebel: Black might be a 100% died in the wool truthful autobiography, it may also very well be that the pseudonym, Bob Greene, took over Frank Davis Marshall, allowing him -- to lesser extent than Linda Albert writing as JT LeRoy -- to express things otherwise left unsaid.

Anais Nin and Henry Miller both wrote porn for a dollar a page, commissioned by an Oklahoma collector. The couple held a regular writers' salon for those interested in ars pornographicas, and Nin observed that everyone who wrote pornography with her wrote out of a self that was opposite to her or his identity, but identical with his or her desire.

Desire. Not acts.

In Sur les Toits de Paris (aka Opus Pistorum) Miller describes in graphic first person detail sex with a midget and a black mass (the latter liberally lifted from Huysman's La Bas) Were those stories "real"? Well Miller did live in Paris...

To reference Miller again, his Tropic of Cancer was certainly pornoliciously autobiographical-or at least written in the first person, a standard literary device-and was banned in the United States for its adult language and situations. But how truthful, or rather factual, is that literary classic? We shan't ever really know, in the same way to speculate how much fact or fantasy went into Davis' Sex Rebel: Black is purely that-speculation.

In a surviving portion of his autobiographical manuscript, The Incredible Waikiki Jungle, discovered posthumously, Davis confirmed that he was the author of Sex Rebel: Black after an astute reader/fanboy noticed the "similarities in style and phraseology" between the pornographic work and his poetry.

"I could not then truthfully deny that this book, which came out in 1968 as a Greenleaf Classic, was mine," Davis wrote. In the introduction to Sex Rebel: Black, Davis (writing as Greene) explains that although he has "changed names and identities... all incidents I have described have been taken from actual experiences."

Well, of course. "Taken from actual experiences." Just like I am lying here on a lavender brocade duvet, clad only in black La Perla bra and panties. The cool breeze tantalizing me, I await the sound of the your key in front door, the firm stride of your long legs as you walk into the bedroom, unbuckling your belt...

OBAMA SEX PERV SCANDAL

NATIONAL ENQUIRER

OCTOBER 24, 2008 (WEEKEND ISSUE)

The ENQUIRER exclusively reports a "sex pervert" was Sen. Barack Obama's longtime mentor and "father figure".

For seven years, the presidential candidate had a "father-son" relationship with Frank Marshall Davis, who has confessed to having sex with children, sadomasochism, bondage and practicing a wide array of deviant sexual activities.

In his 1995 memoir Dreams from My Father, Obama identifies his childhood mentor only as "Frank," but Obama insiders later confirmed he was referring to Davis, a journalist and poet who was a pal of Obama's maternal grandfather, Stanley Dunham.

Frank Marshall Davis admitted in his private papers that he had secretly authored a hard-core pornographic autobiography called Sex Rebel: Black, published in 1968. The author of the book - a copy of which was been obtained by The ENQUIRER - is listed as "Bob Greene." Davis later confessed to its authorship after a reader noticed similarities in style and phraseology between that book and Davis' poetry.

Davis confessed: "I could not truthfully deny that this book, which came out in 1968 as a Greenleaf Classic, was mine."

The appalling catalog of admitted real-life decadence is laced with perverted sexual activity, bisexuality, rape - and the seduction of children.

"Davis' admission he wrote this disturbing book exposes Obama's mentor as living a secret double life - and as a sexual pervert," disclosed a source.

In his shocking tell-all, Davis admits to seducing a thirteen year-old girl, voyeurism, exhibitionism, bisexuality, rape and sadomasochism.

Barack, called "Barry" as a child, was a mere ten year old when he first met the family friend who lead a secret double life.

Obama's grandfather introduced Barry and Davis because he believed it would help his alienated grandson identify with being of mixed heritage because Barack's mother, Ann, was a white American while his father, Barack Sr.black Kenyan.

Obama's parents separated and then divorced when Barack was only 2. Ann remarried and took Barack to live with her and new husband Lolo Soetoro in Indonesia - but Barack was later sent to live with his white grandparents in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Barack describes how Frank Davis had a lasting effect on him and became a father figure over the seven years they knew one another on the tropical island.

In Dreams from My Father, Obama wrote: "He would read us poetry whenever we stopped by his house, sharing whiskey with Gramps out of an emptied jelly jar.

"As the night wore on, the two of them would solicit my help in composing dirty limericks."

Obama described being counseled by Frank often and recalled drinking whiskey with him.

Since Frank Davis has been identified as the author of Sex Rebel: Black, Obama has been extremely secretive about the true nature of his experience with the self-admitted deviant.
