Colorado Representative Douglas Bruce (I-Colorado Springs)

Right Witch has a blog up regarding Representative Douglas Bruce (R-Colorado Springs) called Representative Savant. She recently interviewed Bruce to discuss some of the statements that he's made on the House floor and elsewhere.

Bruce talks about things that are important to Republicans, such as:

Quote:
"...faithfully committed to limited government."
"I’d like to get the Republicans back in the fight."
"I’m helping them focus on principles."
"We should focus on doing what’s right."

Yet there's something troublesome about his views on public perception:

Quote:
"...not whether we are liked or whether we can win a popularity contest."

The fact is, when Bruce put the (R) after his name and ran for office, he began representing not only his constituents, but also the Republican Party. Regardless of his level of intelligence, that means he needs to consider the ramifications of his statements and actions not only in the context of how they will be perceived by the public, but also how the Republican Party will be seen in the eyes of the people.

If he's unable to do that, then he should remove himself from the party and run as an Independent. That appears to be how he likes it anyway.
