As conservatives, are we better off now?

With Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in charge and the so called “Republican brand” damaged, things look pretty dismal for conservatives.

A few days ago I was listening to a local talk show and a substitute host was wondering where the conservative movement had gone wrong. He had come to the conclusion that one of the problems was that conservative talk radio had lost it’s way. Instead of promoting conservative ideas and discussing in a positive way how our ideas would help the country, they had started criticizing and trying to manipulate the Republican Party. Instead of supporting the conservative members in the Congress and the Senate, they constantly whined about the RINOs. Instead of standing by their own President for the good things that he had accomplished, they had started tearing him apart for things they didn't like.

After 20 plus years of conservative talk radio, conservatives should not be in the position that we are in today. Our President is at an all time low approval rating, the Democrats are in the majority and looking toward gaining seats and the Obama juggernaut with the entire media on his side is probably going to roll over McCain just like he rolled over the Clintons.

Everyone seems to agree that the “Republican brand” is damaged. Some conservative media stars have contributed to that damage. The question must be asked: Are conservatives better off today than we were 20 years ago?

I am glad to have you here. I agree that the Conservative movement is not where it should be after 20 years. The problem as I see it, is that we won in 1994, sweeping into power in Congress, and then they lost their way.

It became more inportant to get reelected than to stand on the conservative principles that got them elected in the first place. Instead of standing up to the liberals in congress and the MSM and pointing out where their ideas were wrong, our side allowed the other side to "frame" the debate.

We took control of Congress and after President Clinton won a couple of skermishes, we went on Defense. You cannot win on defense. You have to score points -- and when we no longer went to the American people with our principles, we were defeated.

The reason that President Bush has the lowest popularity ratings in history is because he never fought back. His "uniter not a divider" didn't work because the left was NEVER interested in unity. "Selected Not Elected" has been their motto from day one, and everything that has happened since that time has been predicated on that theme.

He's a dunce. He's a frat boy. He's a puppet. He's in the pocket of big oil. It has all been designed to demonstrate that he didn't deserve to hold the office in the first place.

AND, because he allowed the left to frame his presidency in those terms, without fighting back, the idea has taken hold with the public.

His ratings are low, NOT because the libs hate him, they never gave him a chance. His ratings are low because the right simply gave up on supporting him when he wouldn't stand up and defend himself.

Years from now, he will be remembered as a good president. At one time, a couple of years ago I would have said great. He allowed to many opportunities to slip past him to win the hearts and minds of the American people to be called great.

More later

Looking forward to more from you Sandra

I really appreciate the invitation to blog at the Minority Report, even though we disagree on some things. President Bush is one. I think that he has been amazingly strong in spite of the public disapproval. Even now, with a Democrat majority he is not giving up and continues fighting for what he believes in. One thing that makes me proud of him is that he never changed. He's the same now as the day he took the oath of office. You are so right, the Democrats never even tried to work with him. Even so he's accomplished some great things. He never was the type to go out in public and brag. He doesn't care who gets the credit, as long as it gets done. I thank God that he was there when our country was attacked. I truly believe we would be living in a different country today if he hadn't been there and ready to go on the offense against our enemies.

Happy 4th of July and may God bless America!

including Algore, who wasn't glad that GWB was president after 9-11. Nothing that has happened since has hammered home just how important leadership can be.

My disagreements with the President revolve mostly around domestic issues. But he was the right man at the right time for confronting evil in this world and not backing down.

because we fired all the conservatives, and we are now in the minority... seems adding to our numbers would have been a lot smarter than kicking everyone out! Working from strength makes a lot more sense to me...

we didn't fire them -- they just forgot who brung them to the dance. It only took them a couple of terms in Congress to decide that getting re-elected was more inportant than principles and once they no longer had principle they became undistinguishable from liberals.

If you look at the three "special elections" that were lost in recent months you will see that more "conservative" democrats beat squishy moderate Republicans in all three races.

**SIGH**

they ran to the right of our candidates, and as usual faked everybody out...sigh.

I always believed we could do more by adding to our numbers, even if we have a few that aren't up to our expectations, it's better than losing everything. Am I wrong?

I really like your format here. Very professionally done.
