Martin Luther King, a Republican?
"It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S's: Slavery, Secession, Segregation and now Socialism."
Another interesting paragraph that jumped out at me states: "Democrat President John F. Kennedy is lauded as a proponent of civil rights. However, Kennedy voted against the 1957 Civil rights Act while he was a senator, as did Democrat Senator Al Gore, Sr. And after he became president, John F. Kennedy was opposed to the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King that was organized by A. Phillip Randolph who was a black Republican. President Kennedy, through his brother Attorney General Robert Kennedy, had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI on suspicion of being a Communist in order to undermine Dr. King."
King, a Republican
I have never understood why black Americans vote in block for Democrats and apparently this year polls indicate numbers as high as 98% of blacks will vote for Obama. Another shocker is that Colin Powell will possibly endorse Obama for President. Bill Crystal has recently reported on this even though Powell is denying the accuracy of Crystal's sources.
The Democrats and the MSM have done an excellent job of painting Republicans as racists. I am very happy to see the NBRA (National Black Republican Association) working to dispel this ugly stereotype. They are putting up billboards all over the country stating that Martin Luther King Was A Republican. Billboards
As Republicans we have to do more to educate the public on the history of the Republican Party and it's involvement in the anti-slavery movement.

David, thanks for the comment. You are correct in your assessment. I hope that this can change. The future of our country is at stake. I heard recently that non-whites will be the majority in about ten years.
We will have to agree to disagree. The Republican Party may have done some things in the PAST to help minorities but we all know polictics is all about to quote Janet Jackson "what have you done for me lately". I am not talking social programs, I am talking about any legislation specifically targeted at helping the poor lower crime rates in those neighborhoods, better education etc. As far as underperforming schools what about those who cannot send the kids to another school because they lack the means, they are stuck in these bad schools.Next Point as for those who say look at Secretary Rice or Colin Powell I say this, neither of them has any real standing in the black community. They could not go on the news tomorrow and ask blacks to do something and thousands would do it. The black community is proud of the for getting where they are but would not follow either to a soup kitchen much less politically. I present you with this challenge Find any prominent republican politician in the last 20 years that has sponsored legislation that actually helped minorities (not just blacks) I look forward to debating this further.
Care to revise that, Napman30?
Or start offering something other than "Sez Me" to back-up the claim that Republicans are Anti-Minority?

Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie' until you can find a rock.
Republicans support vouchers and tax credits for education. This makes it possible for parents to decide where their children go to school, not their location. This legislation is blocked by the Democrats because they fear losing the death grip that they have on the public schools.
I would also say that pushing for economic freedom (through low regulations, which mean easier to enter an industry) is most definitely a goal of the Republican Party. The more that any class is able to create its own business and is allowed to survive or die on the merits, the better off any class will be. They will create wealth, jobs and services that are needed for their fellow citizens. These are fundamentally Republican (and libertarian) philosophy.
I’m quite certain though that you will not be happy with any of these answers. You seem to seek the answer to this question: What have you handed to the minority community lately? To that I say, I don’t care if someone is a minority or a majority. I seek legislation that treats all citizens equally. Affirmative action, etc. do nothing of the sort. They elevate one class over another and breed the divisions that we have been trying to heal for decades.
I think I can say, and say with pride, that we have legislatures that bring higher prices than any in the world. ~ Mark Twain
what Democrat has proposed anything that accomplishes those goals you lay out? Their programs have created the mess -- do you prefer more of the same answers they have proposed in the past -- to accomplish more of the same?
country, they fight against GENOCIDE in the black community by fighting the abortionist's who would see them all dead....in the 60's blacks were 28 percent of the population they are now 17 percent brought straight to the community by Margaret Sanger and the Democrats....We on RIGHT want the community to grow and flourish RIGHT along side every American loving minority group, women's group etc....hand up not a hand out...personal responsibility...manning up when you get a girl pregnant...the same things all Republicans/Conservatives/Religious Right/Reagan Democrats want.
Now tell me what the Democrats have done for blacks lately.
Whoever has his enemy at his mercy & does not destroy him is his own enemy
There is absolutely no reason to meet with the NAACP if you are a Republican candidate for any office. The NAACP is fundamentally liberal. They want hand outs. They want affirmative action (something that has kept the problem, not lessened it). They like bigger government. Republicans do not need to pander to this organization to be considered looking out for the black community.
And I’m quite sick of this bs about “our issues”. Are you or are you not an American? Why do you insist on being treated differently (by being pandered to) and then complain about being treated differently?
As to being stuck in a bad school, it is your choice (after being given the choice through vouchers or tax credits). You choose where you live. You choose not to have a vehicle. You choose to make public transit not an option. If you are not willing to pay for transportation, why are you willing to make someone else?
As to who has been beneficial to the black community?
George W. Bush
Republicans Act to Help Black Americans Prosper
In the face of all that the Democrats have done to harm blacks, Democrats have the gall to claim that it’s Republicans who don’t care about blacks and that Republicans have done nothing for blacks. Ignored is the fact that President Bush has appointed more blacks to high level positions than any time in our nation’s history. Also ignored is the fact that over $7 trillion dollars have been spent on poverty programs since the 1960’s with little, if any, impact on poverty.
The Washington Post reported that as of 2006, the federal government had in place over 80 poverty-related programs costing $500 billion annually. Since President George W. Bush took office, record money has been spent on education, job opportunities, health care and housing for poor blacks.
Over $1.4 billion has been spent on overall education, a record 137% increase. Contrary to the false claim by Democrats that the No Child Left Behind Act was an “unfunded mandate,” the Act was funded to the tune of $13.1 billion. The Act provides money for tutoring and holds teachers accountable for failing to teach black children to read, write and do math. Also, $12.9 billion is being spent for Pell Grants, and $18.8 million for HBCU’s. Additionally, $500 million is being spent for job training, $24 billion for small business loans and grants, and $6 million for minority business development.
President Bush spending $150 million to fight AIDS in Africa, three times the $50 million allocated by President Clinton. With little media coverage, President Bush was the only world leader to declare the situation in Darfur to be genocide. Democrats are criticizing President Bush about Darfur, and the war he is waging to protect Americans from Islamic terrorists as authorized by Congress. Yet, Democrats were silent when President Clinton sent troops to Bosnia to protect the Muslins without UN or Congressional approval, while Clinton was doing nothing to stop the massacre of 920,000 black Rwandans.
In another display of hypocrisy, Democrats accuse President Bush of being a racist, even though President Bush supported the affirmative action decision of U.S. Supreme Court which struck down the University of Michigan’s unfair quota system, but upheld the use of race as an admission factor. Yet, Democrats expressed no concern when President Clinton - whose mentor was J. William Fulbright, a staunch segregationist - refused to comply with a court order to have shipping companies in California develop an affirmative action plan and stop discriminating against blacks.
Despite the opposition by Democrats, President Bush promoted the Faith-based Initiative in order to help black church-run charitable groups compete for federal tax dollars on an equal footing with secular organizations. As a way of helping blacks become homeowners, Republicans enacted the American Dream Down Payment Act pushed by Republican Congresswoman Katherine Harris. Under President Bush, half of black households are now home owners, an all-time high.
So, please, don’t come in here saying that we don’t care when it is you that doesn’t know his history.
I think I can say, and say with pride, that we have legislatures that bring higher prices than any in the world. ~ Mark Twain
All this is from my special list of complaints...Again I say our issues because most of those who live below the poverty line are blacks or others of color who don't choose where they live, the live where they can afford to live. If I make less than 15K a year I don't choose not to have a vehicle, I can't afford one, I don't choose to live in bad neighborhood I don't have many options. If public transportation is not available in my area then how do I choose that as not an option? As far as the stats you posted it may that money went to the community on paper but believe me it never made it those who needed it most. If you don't believe me try driving to the nearest low income area to you and ask the people just how much so-called help they have gotten. Also all the debates skipped by GOP candidates were not held by liberals, what is excuse for not talking to those blacks, even Bob Barr of your own party said it was wrong.
I know my history; all politicians talk a good game but hardly ever do anything to help those that need it of all races. As far as being treated differently you are as I said before under the assumption that because you may not be racist that none in your party are. I am different because I am treated differently, You can sing Kumbya all you want but you are being disingenuous if you think that blacks get a fair shake in this country. I want you to go to a school in your area and then go to a school in a low-income area and note the differences. The blacks are taxpayers like everyone else so why is the school in such bad shape why do they have the worst teachers, and you say my kids should be able to compete, get real. I say come on ladies and gentlemen do you really believe that blacks are treated equally in all places? You can’t believe that and be intelligent human beings
I will give you the fact the NAACP is liberal but there are others out there that still were passed over by YOUR candidates. I don’t want a handout, I don’t want to be treated different but the ugly truth of this country is that I am for no other reason than I am black.
Until you are willing to divorce race from the discussion, races will be treated differently.
You do choose to live where you live. You do choose your circumstances. I’m sorry you don’t recognize this, but you have choices as to what your future holds. You have to make them. I can’t do that for you. Don’t like where you live, move. Don’t like making only $15,000 a year, find a new, higher paying job. Don’t have a car, buy one (you can find some very affordable used cars…as low as $500; That car is also possibly a ticket to a better job in the next town over.) Recognize that you control your life. It becomes a lot easier to succeed that way.
Republicans fight to create economic conditions that help ALL races and classes thrive. Decreased regulation makes it easier for small businesses to grow and survive (Small businesses in the black community have exploded over the last decade). That is an opportunity to create wealth for the business owner and jobs for the community. That increased wealth increases property taxes to municipalities which can then in turn increase education funding (which by the way is not the sign of a quality education. Parental involvement matters far more than dollars spent. Otherwise students would be three orders of magnitude smarter than they were thirty years ago).
I also assume nothing about racism. I know that there are racists in both parties. I hope you recognize that there are blacks in the Democrat(ic) Party who are racists also.
Debates should not be about each race. The fact that the NAACP, Univision, et al push debates about “black” issues or “Latino” issues continues to divide based on race. Debates should be about economics, foreign policy, etc. If those groups wish to co-sponsor debates on those issues, fine. So far that does not appear to be their goal. Their goal is the advancement of their group as opposed to all groups.
Bob Barr is a Libertarian. Not a Republican.

Lord Napier,
And you wonder why Republicans don't venture long into "minority" communities? Sheesh - re-read your own words for a clue.
Look, there is reality and then there is whining. You can whine all the live-long about your circumstances - waiting for Massa Democrat Plantation Owner to swoop-in with big piles of Other Peoples' MoneyTM to fix the problems - or you can do something about them yourself.
What I would submit to you is that we've tried the Plantation model for about the last 60-years and the results, as you note very accurately, are a disaster. White Klansmen could not have devised a plan to more effectively destroy entire communities - mostly minority - than have Great Society Democrats. And yet, it's All The Racist Republicans' Fault, as far as you're concerned.
That, sir, is cognative dissonance of a level we - all of whom have day jobs - simply don't have the time to properly diagnose and dispatch. We also don't have adequate time for people who see racism in a ham sandwich, and toss such slurs around with the sort of casualness you've demonstrated, but I'll just attribute that to being a feature, rather than a bug, of your overall dysfunction.
So with all that under consideration I've taken the liberty of deactivating your account.
Should you decide to join the world of grown-ups - people who chose to rise above their circumstances and change, rather than bitch about, them - please feel free to drop a line and we'll work out the terms of your account unblocking. Until then, go waste someone else's bandwidth.
Adios.

Sandra, you are trying to use facts and logic -- you can never compete against EMOTION and that is all that the Democrats have.
Republicans are racist. Why? Because they oppose organized discrimination called "Affirmative action." Why are they racist? Because they oppose welfare. Why are they racist? Because they believe in school choice, allowing poor parents should be allowed to opt out of failing schools.
