$45 Trillion Needed to Combat "GLOBAL WARMING" - I Say: Mine The Moon!

Reads Drudge's headline this morning about this story $45 trillion needed to combat warming

Quote:
The world needs to invest $45 trillion in energy in coming decades, build some 1,400 nuclear power plants and vastly expand wind power in order to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, according to an energy study released Friday.

The report by the Paris-based International Energy Agency envisions a "energy revolution" that would greatly reduce the world's dependence on fossil fuels while maintaining steady economic growth.

"Meeting this target of 50 percent cut in emissions represents a formidable challenge, and we would require immediate policy action and technological transition on an unprecedented scale," IEA Executive Director Nobuo Tanaka said.

I have a better Idea... let’s forget the 45 trillion and have the G8 nations work together over the next decade or so to mine the moon for helium-3

Quote:
Although considerable lunar soil would have to be processed, the mining costs would not be high by terrestrial standards. Automated machines, perhaps like those shown in the illustrations on the lead page, might perform the work. Extracting the isotope would not be particularly difficult. Heating and agitation release gases trapped in the soil. As the vapors are cooled to absolute zero, the various gases present sequentially separate out of the mix. In the final step, special membranes would separate helium-3 from ordinary helium.

The total estimated cost for fusion development, rocket development and starting lunar operations would be about $15 billion. The International Thermonuclear Reactor Project, with a current estimated cost of $10 billion for a proof-of-concept reactor, is just a small part of the necessary development of tritium-based fusion and does not include the problems of commercialization and waste disposal.

So we could spend 30 or 40 Billion (with a B) instead of wasting Trillions (with a T) on band-aids and silly liberal money grab schemes and give the world unlimited low cost (if not free) clean energy -- See it’s about real solutions that work here at TMR!

So Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less short term Mine the Moon for Helium-3 long term!

Gee, and just where do these Euro-weenies think they're going to get that sort of cashola?

Oh, that's right - the McCain/Obama cap-and-tax ponzi scheme. How silly of me.

The speech should go something like this:

Since the US has lead the world for decades in efforts to clean the environment we're looking to all other nations to financially support this endeavor with the full knowledge that we here in America fully stand behind you and offer our support in spirit.

Somehow I don't think this is what they have in mind!!!

If we don't stop this thing, pretty soon they'll be talking about some REAL money.

Why We Won

Quote:
Eager to protect Democratic senators from coal-producing and heavy industrial states, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was expected to pull the Lieberman-Warner carbon-cap bill from the Senate floor today – and Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) says it’s not coming back. This is a major, but temporary, victory for conservatives. And it is worth reviewing why we won this battle, so we will be ready when the left tries to force similar policy on Americans in the future.

We Exposed the Truth
Lieberman-Warner, and the “cap and trade” policy it seeks to implement, is fundamentally dishonest public policy. By invoking words like “market” and “trade,” supporters try to mask what carbon capping really is: the largest tax increase in the history of the world.

I'm all FOR the 1400 new Nuclear Power plants. The more energy we get from nuclear, the less money going to oil exporters. The less oil Iran sells, the fewer weapons Ahmadinejad can buy.

The world will be a safer place when the entire mideast can no longer find a market for their oil.

I'd be on this like white on rice. (Well provided there was a booster with enough payload capacity to get me there). Then again at least this program will stimulate the world economy unlike the green proposals.

...on this and the science works HE3 fusion was a success but there's so little HE3 on this planet that testing is extremely limited.

I found a couple of articles but they were all pessimistic.
