Kansas City, KS

As the CAFE standards for vehicles rise, and as drivers drive more miles between fueling, the federal government finds that its revenue for the fuel tax is going down. Good news for consumers? Not so fast -- enter the By-the-Mile tax.

New technologies being tried out by the University of Iowa will allow the federal government to track the number of miles you drive each month using GPS tracking devices in your vehicle, and send you a bill at the end of each month.
