Michigan Court of Appeals Strikes Down RMGN Ballot Initiative

The Michigan Court of Appeals has unanimously struck down the Reform Michigan Government Now (RMGN) ballot initiative that many conservatives believe was a Coup d'Etat to take over Michigan government by the Michigan Democratic Party.

Nick at Right Michigan has the Conservative response.

The court was responding to a challenge brought by Citizens Protecting Michigan's Constitution, a group opposing the ballot measure. "This ballot proposal has clearly been ruled unconstitutional," said Tom Shields, a spokesperson for that group.

Former Michigan state representative Dianne Byrum who has been the front person for the ballot proposal said, "This is a travesty of justice. The judges have shown they will do anything to protect the status quo and their perks." Byrum has threatened to take the ruling to the Michigan State Supreme Court, but experts give the measure little hope of being heard by that court, and even less chance of being overturned.

Documents discovered last month by the non-partisan Mackinac Center For Public Policy uncovered the steal support of both money and time that the Michigan Democratic Party donated to the ballot measure, as well as evidence from the UAW Regional website that the intent was clearly to benefit that party for decades to come.

At that time, Michigan Republican Chairman Saul Anuzis told The HinzSight Report, "The process was deceptive, the language faulty and the principle of amendment by petition abused. This was little more than a stealth, underhanded attempt by the Michigan Democrats, UAW and Trial Lawyers to trick the voters of Michigan into passing something they could not attain at the ballot box."
