Moments ago House Democrats, with One Republican voting yea - Congressman Joseph Cao, passed their vesion of Heath Care Reform. The final vote was 220 to 215 for the 1,990 page big government money grab of close to 1/5 of the American economy, a bill that most members haven’t read and a bill Speaker Pelosi said would be posted online for 72 hours before a vote in which the speaker, once again, has failed to live up to her word.
House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement shortly after Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and House Democrats passed a 2,032-page, $1.3 trillion government takeover of health care:
“I came here to renew the American Dream, so my kids and their kids have the same opportunities I had. I came here to fight big-government monstrosities like this bill that dim the light of freedom and diminish opportunity for future generations.
“Americans want a common-sense approach to health care reform, not Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s 2,032-page government takeover that increases costs, adds to our skyrocketing debt, destroys jobs with tax hikes and new mandates, and cuts seniors’ Medicare benefits. Americans asking ‘where are the jobs’ are getting more of the same from out-of-touch Washington Democrats: more spending, more debt, and more government.
“Republicans have better solutions to lower costs and expand access to quality care – especially for those with pre-existing conditions – without adding to the crushing debt Washington has placed on our children and grandchildren. Our plan will lower premiums by up to 10 percent, making health care more affordable for families and small businesses. That’s what the American people want, and that’s what Republicans will continue to fight for.”
Turning a deaf ear to the millions of Americans who oppose the Democrats plan and the hundreds of thousands who showed up to town hall meetings over the summer to voice their opposition… Democrats have once again ignored the will of the American people in favor of pushing a big government agenda spearheaded by the White House and the Far Left Democrat leadership.
The House legislation, running almost 2,000 pages long, would cost $1.1 trillion over 10 years and would require most Americans to obtain health insurance or face penalties. Insurers could not reject people because of pre-existing medical conditions and could not charge higher premiums because of a person’s health status or sex. The bill would trim Medicare payments to hospitals and many other health care providers and would impose a new tax surcharge on high-income people.
Free market and Liberty minded Americans have made it clear to 73wire.com that they will fight back at the ballot box next year! Democrats who voted for this bill, along with other freedom and liberty killing bills over the past 2 years, will have to go back to their districts and not only explain their votes but beg for their constituents to re-elect them.
