Well played, Maverick. Very, very well played.

Consider me officially off the Barr band-, erm, station-wagon.

A gun toting, hockey playing, history making Maverick!

Quote:
At 44, Sarah Louise Heath Palin is both the youngest and the first female governor in Alaska's relatively brief history as a state. She's also the most popular governor in America, with an approval rating that has bounced around 90 percent.

This is due partly to her personal qualities. When she was leading her underdog Wasilla high school basketball team to the state championship in 1982, her teammates called her "Sarah Barracuda" because of her fierce competitiveness.

Two years later, when she won the "Miss Wasilla" beauty pageant, she was also voted "Miss Congeniality" by the other contestants.

Sarah Barracuda. Miss Congeniality. Fire and nice. A happily married mother of five who is still drop dead gorgeous. And smart to boot.

But it's mostly because she's been a crackerjack governor, a strong fiscal conservative and a ferocious fighter of corruption, especially in her own party.

Ms. Palin touches other conservative bases, some of which Sen. McCain has been accused of rounding. Track, her eldest son, enlisted in the Army last Sept. 11. She's a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association who hunts, fishes and runs marathons. A regular churchgoer, she's staunchly pro-life.

Sure as heck changed the game for me - and I thought only Romney (sorry Ace!) could have done that.

ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain today announced that he has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate and to serve as his vice president. Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president. She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her Administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington. Governor Palin has challenged the influence of the big oil companies while fighting for the development of new energy resources. She leads a state that matters to every one of us — Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent. In Alaska, Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the “bridge to nowhere” that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars. As the head of Alaska’s National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops. Governor Palin has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of. Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today.

You just have to love the guys at AoS...

Oh, so now we're supposed to be concerned about women rising to high office - because of the children, of course.

Oh, so now we're concerned about the GOP VP choice's "lack of experience" - whereas a couple of terms in the IL Senate is supposed to be "enough".

Stay classy, MSM.

This is going to be a whole ton of fun watching the Democrats and MSM (but I repeat myself) come unglued from cognative dissonance over "thrusting an inexperienced pol" into the national spotlight.

hearing all the Dems trying to claim that Gov Palin is NOT qualified to be VP because she lacks experience.....

ROFLMAO! Can anyone say Obamessiah?

She is a GOVERNOR who has done MORE in one year than Sen Obama has done in his entire political career, and she is unqualified. I wonder if she ever voted "present" as governor?

...I'm willing to put her 2 years of executive experience (running something) against all three Senators. It's my belief that Senators don't make very good Presidents anyway!

Washington – With all the talk about Sarah Palin being picked for vice-president, the Club for Growth PAC described the Alaska Governor as a genuine reformer who has taken on wasteful spending in her own state.

“At a time when many Republicans are still clinging to pork-barrel politics, Governor Palin has quickly become a leader on this issue,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “She is a principled reformer who understands how badly wasteful spending has marred the Republican brand.”

Governor Palin has proven herself to be a reformer unafraid to take on the establishment, which she did early on when she took on the incumbent Republican governor of Alaska in 2006. Only nine months in office, Governor Palin instructed the state to abandon the notorious pork project secured by Alaska’s politicians, the $223 million “Bridge to Nowhere.” While many Republicans in Congress are afraid to antagonize Washington’s biggest porkers, Sarah Palin stood strong for fiscal responsibility. Palin is also a persistent advocate of drilling in ANWR and expanding America’s domestic oil supply in general.

Palin is a hottie, a true maverick, and best of all, a true fiscal conservative who will take the fight to corruption and to the pork barrelers. Finally, McCain has gotten the message. Glad to finally be on board and off of the Barr fence.

This was the pick I didn't think McCain had the huevos to make-I'm amazed that he pulled it off. Not to mention that he's going to be the one that gets the bounce from this pick and probably shortens Obamas convention pick because all everyones talking about today is hottie...er Palin. Let's Roll!

The Obama camp has made a HUGE error in their response to the Palin pick:

Marc Ambinder

Quote:
"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies -- that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same," said Bill Burton, Obama Campaign Spokesman.

Dissing blue collar everyday Americans, completely ignoring her governorship, and tring to tie her to big oil!

DocJ's picture

Quick! Change the subject!

Uh, uh - BIG OIL!!

Uh, uh - ROE V WADE!!!

Uh, uh - GEORGE BUSH!!!!

Oh, and hillarious line, this...

Opposed to putting a corrupt Chicago machine pol with zero foreign policy experience in the presidency, right? I really, really don't think that's a conversation Obama-nation really wants to have - but hey, bring it.

The only thing is, I think the ticket might be upside down!

If you had to design on paper a better running mate for John McCain, you couldn't. Unless something really bad comes out about her (that all the corrupt politicians in Alaska couldn't find), she's perfect. She balances the ticket in every way, she's a maverick, and she's tough as nails without having a face like a hammer.

That was an awesome introduction. Senator McCain did a great job introducing Sarah Palin in a way that connects her to just about every demographic out there.

Then Sarah came to the mic and delivered a passionate defense of conservative principles and limited government. Not to mention she did all of this with NO TELEPROMPTER.
