Unemployment: Obama's Achilles Heel?

Tagged:

Per the administration, the stimulus has created 21,000 highway and transit jobs as of May 31. At an average cost of $92,000 per job. Is this a success? For the Dems, it's close enough for government work.

Unemployment is becoming a growing thorni inthe side of the Obama Administration. it is still rising, and is projected to go to 9.6% by mid-year. Given the gargantuan stimulus bill, one would have expected better. Unless, of course, one is familiar with the government contracting and procurement process. Projects often have dubious investment value, they take a long time to get started and they are not managed efficiently by the politically connected organizations that win them.

Rep. John Mica (R-FL) is taking the Obama administration to task for the paltry 21,000 figure attributable to $64 billion in infrastructure spending, when we were promised 1.8 million jobs. "This is pitiful that we can't get people working, we can't get the stimulus money out," Mica said. "People want jobs and they want them now."
