President Abandons DOMA in Destructive Assault on Republic’s Foundations
The US prides itself on its system of checks and balances. No one criticizes the Framers for enacting the system they did. It is fair to say that support is universal for each branch of government having both a specific role to make government work and a specific check on the rest of government. This system is foundational to American government.
The Legislative branch writes and passes the laws. The Executive branch signs them into law or not. The Judicial Branch determines who has the best case under the law and which laws conflict with our Constitution.
For over 225 years things have run pretty smoothly as each branch sticks to its own area of responsibility. However, the President’s recent actions concerning DOMA threaten that smooth operation along with the very foundations of our system of government.

Our new majority in the House began this work by humbling ourselves and finding ways to exercise frugality. We banned earmarks, which had become a symbol of a broken Washington. We replaced rules making it easy to increase spending with reforms making it easier to cut spending. We cut our own budgets by five percent. … Earlier this month, the House approved more than $100 billion in spending cuts compared to what President Obama requested for the current fiscal year. … Next month, we will propose cutting or eliminating wasteful mandatory spending programs. … And we’re fighting to end taxpayer funding for abortion once and for all … we’re working to protect life.”

I live in Phoenix, Arizona. We have a problem here with illegal immigration and because the Feds steadfastly refuse to even try to seal our border with Mexico we’ve take some steps internally to address the problem. We wrote about the problem at 908 Straight St! in December. The bottom line is that in states with the biggest budgetary problems – California and Arizona being numbers one and two when you look at deficit as a percentage of total budget – the cost of the Mexican invasion just happens to equal the state budget deficit.
Here in Arizona, and in Virgina – the story highlighted in December – and now in New Mexico, Republicans are doing things at the state level that are reducing the immigration cost. Unfortunately for some, we’re reducing our cost by exporting it, along with the illegal aliens driving the cost, to states that are more illegal friendly. My guess is that they won’t be so friendly for long given that the states do not have the ability to print money and are beginning to make, in the words of those who created the problem, “draconian cuts”. Here’s a quick update of some stuff that works.

Pro-Life Leaders Urge GOP Leadership to Follow Through with Defunding Planned Parenthood
Today, Susan B. Anthony List sent the following letter, signed by 27 Pro-Life leaders, to Speaker of the House John Boehner and the GOP Leadership urging them to keep the proposed Pence Amendment of defunding Planned Parenthood intact through the legislative process saying “…the House vote on the Pence Amendment is nothing more than symbolic unless it remains intact though the legislative process. Defunding Planned Parenthood must be a non-negotiable in the Continuing Resolution and we urge you to accept nothing less than this outcome.”

Biggest Flip Flop in Presidential History? Obama Instructs DOJ to Stop Defending DOMA

Today president Obama, in what’s being described as on of the biggest reversals or flip-flops in presidential history, ordered the Department of Justice to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act.
President Obama has instructed the Justice Department to stop defending the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, which has since 1996 allowed states to refuse to recognize same-sex partnerships legally recognized in other states.
The announcement was made in a letter from Attorney General Eric Holder to congressional leaders in relation to two lawsuits, Pedersen v. OPM and Windsor v. United States, which challenge a section of DOMA that defines marriage for federal purposes as only between one man and one woman.
President Obama believes that section – Section 3 — “is unconstitutional” given the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment (including its equal protection component), Holder wrote, and the president has instructed the Department of Justice to no longer defend the law in those two lawsuits.
President Obama “has made the determination,” Holder wrote, that Section 3 “as applied to same-sex couples who are legally married under state law, violates the equal protection component of the Fifth Amendment.”

There are folks who attend rallies, and do the social networking on Facebook, Twitter, and blog about how we need get Obama out of office. Perhaps these activities provide them with some instant gratification, but they are not an answer to the question – How do we get Obama out of office? Social networking is an important facet of the unrest in Egypt, and this leads me to Ms Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

February 4, 2011 – Following yesterday’s shocking revelation of video from a Richmond, Va. Planned Parenthood investigation, Live Action (www.liveaction.org) today released undercover footage from three more Virginia Planned Parenthood clinics – in Falls Church, Charlottesville and Roanoke – which clearly show staff willing to aid and abet the sexual trafficking and exploitation of minors and young women. Following the release of video earlier this week from clinics in New Jersey and Richmond, Va., this latest footage provides more evidence of a clear, disturbing pattern of gross misconduct by Planned Parenthood.
“It is utterly disgusting that Planned Parenthood’s response to this is that their employee reacted ‘professionally,’” said Live Action President Lila Rose. “The only acceptable response to encountering a self-identified sex-trafficker of underage girls is zero tolerance. The only ‘professional’ response is to immediately call law enforcement to the scene and push for an arrest. Our investigation – and their response – continues to show that an institutional crisis has engulfed the highest levels of Planned Parenthood. If you’re a sex-trafficker of minors or young women, you have a partner in Planned Parenthood. But if you are a minor or a young woman, you are not safe at Planned Parenthood clinics,” Rose continued.
The footage shows a man who identifies himself as a pimp working with underage girls. He seeks assistance for getting abortions, STD testing and birth control for girls he “manages” as sex workers, who are from out of the country and as young as 14 to 15 years old. The investigation continues to unearth alarming evidence that Planned Parenthood, which receives more than $350 million from the American taxpayer every year, is willing to facilitate the sexual exploitation of minors and young women.
“Today, we are sending Attorney General Cuccinelli and Virginia law enforcement officials new, disturbing footage from three Virginia clinics. The footage explicitly shows Planned Parenthood staff willing to engage in activity that sexually exploits minors and young women. The evidence continues to mount, and shows a clear pattern where Planned Parenthood is willing aid and abet the sex-trafficking industry. These are abhorrent practices and it is time Planned Parenthood be held accountable,” Rose said.

— Falls Church – Abortions for underage girls from other countries only require a photo ID.
Planned Parenthood staffer: “We don’t necessarily look at the legal status, like I said. Abortion appointments do require photo ID. It’s nothing as far as records. It’s just photo ID that’s ever going to be required.”
— Roanoke – Birth control and STD testing for underage prostitutes is no problem
Planned Parenthood staffer: “From the age of 12 up, for birth control, you can just come in and do that. You don’t have to have a parent, OK?”
Planned Parenthood staffer discussing STD testing: “And the thing is, see this is the thing a lot of people don’t know that. . .Right, through the Health Department. And so, they’ll uh, they’ll track it. And they’re discreet. They’re confidential. They, you know, don’t tell people what’s going on, because – frankly – it’s nobody’s business.”

NEW JERSEY – February 1, 2011– A Planned Parenthood manager in New Jersey coaches a man and a woman posing as sex traffickers how to secure secret abortions, STD testing, and contraception for their female underage sex slaves, and make their whole operation “look as legit as possible” in an undercover video released this morning.
Clinic manager Amy Woodruff, LPN, of Planned Parenthood Central New Jersey’s Perth Amboy center, warns the pimp and his prostitute to have their trafficked underage girls lie about their age to avoid mandatory reporting laws, promising, “even if they lie, just say, ‘Oh he’s the same age as me, 15,’…it’s just that mainly 14 and under we have to, doesn’t matter if their partner’s the same age, younger, whatever, 14 and under we have to report.” She says, “For the most part, we want as little information as possible.”
Woodruff also recommends how the pimp can get his prostitutes cheaper contraception by claiming they are “students”: “If they’re minors, put down that they’re students. Yeah, just kind of play along that they’re students–we want to make it look as legit as possible.”
If one of the young trafficked girls needs an abortion, Woodruff refers the pimp and prostitute to the Metropolitan Medical Association, where “their protocols aren’t as strict as ours and they don’t get audited the same way that we do.” The prostitute in the video asks how long after the abortion until the girls can have sex again, and when Woodruff says “minimum of 2 weeks,” she asks what sex acts the girls could still do to make money. Woodruff advises, “Waist up, or just be that extra action walking by” to advertise sex to potential clients.
Sex trafficking is punishable under federal law and carries a potential life sentence. The new video is released by Live Action, a pro-life new media organization led by 22-year-old Lila Rose. The video airs just days after Planned Parenthood’s leadership suspected the sting operation and sought an FBI probe of Live Action in order to deter the release of the exposé. Live Action is sending full footage to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, NJ Attorney General Paula Dow, officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and other law enforcement officials, requesting federal and state investigations into Planned Parenthood’s sexual abuse and sex trafficking cover up.
