Earlier this month it was reported President Obama said, “We don’t have a spending problem.” And now it seems that a growing chorus is joining the president on this claim, arguing that five straight years of trillion dollar deficits and a national debt of more than $16 trillion are no cause for concern.
This is the third time in the past year in which NBC News has been caught dishonestly editing footage in order to push their liberal political agenda. Last March they edited the Trayvon Martin 911 call to make George Zimmerman appear racist. A few months later, Andrea Mitchell presented a dishonestly edited clip of Mitt Romney apparently being wowed by a sandwich ordering machine.
For years, President Obama promised meaningful reform to entitlement programs, and for years, Washington refused to take any action. This weekend, with the majority of Americans hoping the president would lay out a clear path to reduce spending and get our deficits and debt under control, he barely paid lip service to those issues. Entitlement reform was notably absent and the idea of deficit reduction was “almost mocked.” Talk is cheap on our overspending problem, but now it appears to be not even worth mentioning.
In the gun violence debate, high-capacity magazines are a red herring. Firing 30 rounds with a single magazine or six five-round clips is a difference of about three seconds for anyone proficient with firearms. This debate isn’t about safety. The gun-control fanatics don’t care about safety.
