The Multicultural Reality Report -Of Snow Days and Rising Suns

Notwithstanding the Goracular pronouncements of Global Warming enthusiasts, during recent years we have witnessed an outbreak of unusually chilly winter weather across the globe. The seas may or may not be rising, but the snow drifts certainly are. Even The Land Of The Rising Sun does not appear to be immune. Tokyo vlogger Kevin Cooney gives us a look at how the Japanese, among the most technologically advanced people on earth, deal with the vagaries of Mother Nature. (Note: I have no idea what his politics are, but his videos combine a sharp eye for detail with a great comedic sensibility, and are hugely enjoyable.) And they don’t deal with it too well. Even light accumulations can basically shut Tokyo down, and the hardworking Japanese get- a snow day! At the end of which Cooney does something that we all appreciate at the end of a chilly day- he orders a pizza. But, Mama mia!, pizza choices in Japan don’t always look so bellissimo. Which makes me think. If the ever-proficient Japanese can twist something as basic as pizza into something very different than the original, what are Westerners doing when they try to import and interpret complex cultural phenomenon in the name of multiculturalism?
The Multicultural Reality Report – Escape From Kyoto

Ah, Kyoto. The name invokes the very essence of the exotic east. And for Global Warming religionists, the signature church council that attempted to lay down the law to humanity about their nasty carbon emissions.
Trouble is, a prolonged bout of biting winter weather, on full view again this weekend, is leading those souls to question the fundamentals of the faith. Not to mention its practice in those foreign lands the left loves so much. For instance, when one leaves the real Kyoto, and not the mystical one of the progressive imagination, one comes across, like, factories. Traveling northeast towards Tokyo on Japan’s famed Shinkansen, the bullet train traveler sees them spread out in plain sight under the gaze of iconic Mt. Fuji, in an area known for its pulp and paper business. Plain, unambiguous, unapologetic factories. But then Japan, despite its well deserved reputation of appreciation for the beauties of nature, is in the business of business. The plants, offices, shopping centers and other manifestations of urban sprawl dominate the Tokaido corridor that stretches from Osaka to Tokyo, a corridor that has been buzzing since the days of the shoguns.
But that’s life in one of the world’s great economies. Don’t tell the libs. And enjoy the view!
Tiger Mom Has A Point.
“Strict, uncompromising values and discipline are what makes children raised by Chinese parents successful.”
– “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother,” Amy Chua (HT: Psychology Today)
A lot of vapid and unintelligent people found Yale Law Professor Amy Chua scary and foreign or something. Dr. Chua offered us an opinion, (from the viewpoint of a Chinese Mother) as to why Tiger Mothers raised superior children. It came down to basics. Dr. Chua lays these out below.
Sophia and Louisa, were never allowed to …:
• attend a sleepover
• have a playdate
• be in a school play
• complain about not being in a school play
• watch TV or play computer games
• choose their own extracurricular activities
• get any grade less than an A
• not be the No. 1 student in every subject except gym and drama
• play any instrument other than the piano or violin
• not play the piano or violin.
As a parent, this puts me to shame. I make our four-year old take violin, go to swimming lessons, attend Korean School on Saturday, and do extra math four times a week. I’ve trained him how to use an abacus. And even bought him “Ye Olde’ SpongeBob Squarepants Addition and Subtraction Workbook “– With Stickers!!
In a nutshell, Dr. Chua’s parenting puts mine to shame. Apparently, she puts an awful large number of my fellow Americans to shame as well. I congratulate her. I wish I was more like her and admire the tremendous success that her two daughters enjoy in their lives. Other people have different reactions and this, for America is unfortunate.
David Brooks chronicles well the whining and complaining that ensued over that creepy furriner (and Yale Law School Professor) Amy Chua and her martinet style of parenting. The catalogs of whines-cum unfair stereotypes against Asian-Americans follow below.
Her kids can’t possibly be happy or truly creative. They’ll grow up skilled and compliant but without the audacity to be great. She’s destroying their love for music. There’s a reason Asian-American women between the ages of 15 and 24 have such high suicide rates.
Her kids can’t be truly creative? Get out of town! Speaking from an utterly Euro-Phallo-Centric prospective, Thomas Edison had the following thoughts on creativity. It’s 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration. Less than 500 people who have ever lived qualify as legitimate geniuses, the rest of us who have done anything impressive at all have had to bust our @$$es to get it done. Tyler Durden, from the movie “Fight Club,” had the right of it when he told his Space Monkeys they were not “God’s unique and beautiful snowflakes.”
So SpongeBob Addition and Subtraction, stickers and all, won’t make my little son truly creative. He needs Calculus with Patrick, Econometrics with Squidward and then a dose of Real Analysis with The Small, Bad Plankton. Truly creative kids turn off the idiot box and knock out twenty more push-ups.
They won’t have the audacity to be great? FTW? Greatness is what? Greatness means being better than those against whom we compete. Nobody reaches greatness through sheer audacity. People who intelligently manage risk (i.e. do something “audacious”) know good and well what they are getting into, and have carefully tabulated the odds.
Another one of those Euro-Phallo-Centric Dudes, Aristotle, described the audacity to be great as follows. “Excellence is a habit.” You develop habits when you do things repeatedly. Practicing the right thing until it is second nature frees the mind. It allows you to do it instead of having to think about doing it.
After years of developing such habits, Aristotle could truly say “I have gained this from my philosophy. I do of my own volition what other men do only from fear of the laws.” It sounds like Amy Chua’s kids could probably make the same audacious statement. Isn’t that just great?
Whether she destroys their love for music is indeterminate and beside the point. Amy Chua wasn’t trying to train musicians. She was teaching her children to work and then showing them that the fruits of their labor can be readily observed. Hard work makes you better.
Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones played music for a living. I imagine he practiced lo the hours to get good enough to go on stage and perform in front of tens of thousands of fans. I imagine he found his guitar practice to be drudgery. His parents must have given him something to help him persevere. When his father was cremated, Keith snorted a sample of his ashes along with a hit of cocaine. As sick as this may sound, it was a twisted way of saying thanks.
And as to the suicide rate among 15-24 year old Asian Females, if you were a younger version of Amy Chua, and you were stranded in a strange land where all the guys who hit on you had the sincerity of Barack Obama, and the morals of Ben Rapistberger,…. I’ll go no further with the Beyesian Analysis, it could lead to rhetoric that incites violence. Then I’d be part of the problem, rather than being part of the solution, like Genghis Khan. Imagine what his mother must have been like after a botched piano recital.
Kanye West Had A Point: Modern America Hates Black Unborn Children

Bureaucratic inertia is not exactly news. We understand that. But we think this was something more. We think the reason no one acted is because the women in question were poor and of color, because the victims were infants without identities, and because the subject was the political football of abortion.
Grand Jury Report Re Misc. No. 0009901-2008. First Judicial District of Pennsylvania Criminal Trials Division. (HT: Ace of Spades)
Let us please be honest here. Let us cut through the restrictions on honest rhetoric that may lead others to violence. The aggressive marketing and promotion of abortion as a life style choice is the modern outgrowth of the 19th and early 20th Century Eugenics Movements. The marketing is aimed overwhelmingly at poor and minority women.
It is the safest, cleanest and most socially sanctioned methodology our governmental leviathan has devised to rid itself of large numbers of undesirables. Steven Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner made the infamous argument that aborting certain children prevented future crime. Their thesis read like a Planned Parenthood propaganda exercise.
Perhaps the most dramatic effect of legalized abortion, and one that would take years to reveal itself, was its impact on crime. In the early 1990s, just as the first cohort of children born after Roe v. Wade was hitting its late teen years—the years during which young men enter their criminal prime—the rate of crime began to fall. What this cohort was missing, of course, were the children who stood the greatest chance of becoming criminals. And the crime rate continued to fall as an entire generation came of age minus the children whose mothers had not wanted to bring a child into the world. Legalized abortion led to less unwantedness; unwantedness leads to high crime; legalized abortion, therefore, led to less crime.
Like the Pre-Crime Department from the Stephen Spielberg movie, you could just take out the right ones. Abort the ones nobody wants, and society no longer faces negative externalities from these children having ever been spawned. As Sartre once said, “Hell is other people.”
A cursory study comparing rates of abortion in America to our population demographics demonstrates which groups of people American society would obviously like to see comprise a smaller minority of the general population. Filtering out miscegenation, 63% of Americans were White Alone, while 12.4% were purely Black and 15.8% were at least partially Hispanic or Latin in Anno Domine 2009. The other 9% were either Asian or racially mixed.(Ht: Wikipedia).
The New York State Department of Health reports that in 2008, almost 50,000 out of 118,000 abortions were performed on African-America unborn children. 54,000 out of the 118,000 pre-birth assassinations were directed at White unborn children. Assuming that New York State more or less “looks like America”, and that American demographics didn’t undergo watershed transformation in 2008, there is an obvious disparity between population proportion and numbers of abortions taking place in America today. 42.3% of New York State’s abortions involved a racial cohort representing 12.4% of the population. Less than ½ of the abortion procedures (46%) involved white children.
I’m sure Dr. Levitt would rapidly demure if asked whether the race of an aborted child had meaningful impact upon the crime prevention value or externality cost avoidance associated with the abortion procedure. In other words, I doubt he would care to opine as to whether aborting a disproportional cohort of poor, minority children of unmarried women was a good risk abatement strategy for modern Western Society to legislate towards and engage in officially. Most people with a political IQ> 6 would demure in a similar manner.
His damage to how Western Society values a human life is by implication and, as was the case with “Women’s Medical Society,” the societal mandate to get rid of these people somehow, is implicit and kept strictly under wraps. Dispose of these people quietly, as if they were environmental waste or something, and the methods by which it is done are not watched too closely. Dr. Kermit B. Gosnell, the murderous, vile abortionist in Pennsylvania, fit this grizzly purpose to perfection. In the words of Joe Biden, he was storybook, man.
Gosnell seemed impressive as well. A child of the neighborhood, Gosnell spent almost four decades running this clinic, giving back – so it appeared – to the community in which he continued to live and work.
(Grand Jury Report, Ob. Cit.)
However, the extent to which conditions in his clinic were reminiscent of medical care in the worst of the 3rd World, belies any sort of narrative suggesting that the Doctor, or anyone who was supposed to regulate and monitor the doctor, considered the women he treated as decent or valuable human beings. Dr. Gosnell, and the society that supported him, felt nothing other than hatred and contempt for the patients of the “Women’s Medical Society.” The Grand Jury that indicted Gosnell described his clinic as follows.
The clinic reeked of animal urine, courtesy of the cats that were allowed to roam (and defecate) freely. Furniture and blankets were stained with blood. Instruments were not properly sterilized. Disposable medical supplies were not disposed of; they were reused, over and over again. Medical equipment – such as the defibrillator, the EKG, the pulse oximeter, the blood pressure cuff – was generally broken; even when it worked, it wasn’t used. The emergency exit was padlocked shut. And scattered throughout, in cabinets, in the basement, in a freezer, in jars and bags and plastic jugs, were fetal remains. It was a baby charnel house.
(Grand Jury Report Ob. Cit.)
Dr. Gosnell was paid handsomely to dispose of socially undesirable children. America wanted those babies dead and didn’t give a damn how Gosnell made them go take a dirt nap. His procedures for later-term pregnancies show how evil, he and by extension, our entire kfucked-up culture and society have become.
When you perform late-term “abortions” by inducing labor, you get babies. Live, breathing, squirming babies. By 24 weeks, most babies born prematurely will survive if they receive appropriate medical care. But that was not what the Women’s Medical Society was about. Gosnell had a simple solution for the unwanted babies he delivered: he killed them. He didn’t call it that. He called it “ensuring fetal demise.” The way he ensured fetal demise was by sticking scissors into the back of the baby’s neck and cutting the spinal cord.
(Grand Jury Report. Ob. Cit.)
I leave this now with the same last words that Joseph Conrad had Kurtz utter when he left his debased and Neitzschean existence. “The Horror…The Horror.”
The Multicultural Reality Report- Aregato, Landlord-san!

One of my blogging goals for the coming year is to pay more attention to the international scene. It is an article of faith among the chattering left that they understand other cultures, which of course share their liberal perspective on the issues of the day. In fact, the left understands very little of what goes on in other countries, as their ideological defense systems intercept all inconvenient truths.
For starters, let’s go with something as mundane as renting an apartment in Tokyo. Tokyo V-logger Kevin Cooney, who won the You Tube Japan V-Logger Of The Year award for 2008, gives an idea of what you might have to go through to snag an apartment in Tokyo’s notoriously complex and expensive rental market. Enjoy! And, uh, Save The Whales
